March Malt Madness 2024

$52 event + $3.60 tax + $4.39 gratuity = $59.99 Ticket Price

“March Malty” – A Whisky Tasting Dinner: Now that we’ve successfully survived St. Patrick’s Day, it’s time for the March Malts. I bet that you haven’t had a wee dram of Strathmill, Bladnoch, Edradour, Raasay, or SPEY single malt Scotch recently. Well, here is the solution:

Let’s taste all 5 of the aforementioned whiskies and the great Ardbeg’s BlaaacK limited edition from 2020. Strathmill is the key malt in the J&B Rare Blend, Bladnoch Vinaya is from a 50:50 of first-fill bourbon and fresh sherry casks, Edradour 2002 Vintage 10-Yr is da bomb, Raasay is the best young single malt from among the last decades new distilleries (except Lochlea): it is stunningly good.

The orphaned SPEY (Speyside Distillery allowed its property to be sold to another distiller) makes an excellent malt. Let’s watch for the build-out of their Aviemore distillery.  Ardbeg: enough said, so let’s taste BlaaacK.

Our cuisine… all four courses… will be delightful, so do please join us and bring a friend: “Good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”

ESPY House Bourbon Tasting w/ Todd Eichelberger

THE ESPY HOUSE

Located in historic Bedford, Pennsylvania. was built around 1771. At the time, it was considered one of the
most beautiful homes in all of Bedford. several famous Americans have occupied the house over the years,
but none more so than president George Washington. He used the house as his headquarters during the
Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. Today, the ESPY House is owned by Todd Eichelberger who was inspired so
much by the history of this historic location that he created a whiskey of superior taste and prestige to
commemorate the house and its historic inhabitants.

COLONEL DAVID ESPY

The ESPY House was named after colonel David Espy who was a very influential and prominent business
man and politician In Bedford, Pennsylvania during the late 1700’s. he was also a revolutionary war activist
who Aided troops with supplies and helped keep the peace in a highly volatile period of American history.

TODD EICHELBERGER

Is the owner of ESPY House Spirits LLC and of The Espy House (֊1771).

THE WHISKEY REBELLION

In 1794, congress repealed a tax on distilled spirits, but replaced it with a new one causing the onset of
what was later known as the “Whiskey Rebellion.” Western Pennsylvania residents were unceremoniously
informed that the new tax would be collected, by force if necessary. They felt the tax was unfair and
organized the first rebellion against the fledgling US government. President George Washington mobilized
12,950 troops from eastern Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey under general Harry Lee,
with the intent on quelling the rebellion and asserting the government’s authority to enact and enforce
laws. The rebellion ended with only minor confrontations and no loss of life.

Leap Year Day 2024

“Leap into March” – A Leap-Year-Day Tasting Dinner

Our whisky menu is quite promising and our soup/salad/entrée/desert at the new GoodFellas Bar & Grill will be delicious. We will begin our whisky flight with the 1990 vintage Glencadam 20-Year from Gordon & Macphail (1895).

Fettercairn offers a unique taste profile that’s just right for our second pour: the 1997 vintage )19-Year) single cask from MMCD (Murray McDavid). Our third and featured whisky is Bladnoch 26-Year, its 2020 limited ‘distillery exclusive’ release. It’s a real cracker that I’m sure you will enjoy.

I have an on-going internal debate which Dalmore core expression is better: Dalmore Cigar Malt or 1263 King Alexander III. For this event, I’ve landed on Dalmore Cigar Malt. It was created decades ago to accompany fine cigars (no smoking at our event). Thankfully, it was bottled at the decent strength of 44% ABV.

Ben Nevis is my nominee as the most underrated great single malt that you will ever have the pleasure of discovering. It offers an array of rich sherry flavors and will pair up well with our previous pour. GlenAllachie Lum Reek is a lightly peaked blended malt (GlenAllachie & BenRiach) that really works whereas Lagavulin, our final dram, affords a power arsenal of maritime flavors.

Do please join us and bring a friend: “Good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”

3. BLADNOCH Single Malt / 26-year / ‘2020 Talia Edition’ (Red wine casks of American oak) / CS 44% ABV / NCF / OB / Dist Owner: Bladnoch Distillery Ltd. (David Prior) / Lowland (Wigtown, Dumfries)

Loch Lomond/Glen Scotia/Littlemill w/ Forbes McMullin

Have you ever had a $3000 scotch? Would you like to?

Forbes McMullin of Loch Lomond distillers will be flying to town to visit us. The company has two active distilleries, Loch Lomond and Glen Scotia, and a ‘dead’ distillery, Littlemill, now forever closed, that began in the 1700s.

Forbes will be sharing the following bottles:

Glen Scotia Double Cask
Glen Scotia 15yr
Glengarry
Glengarry 12yr
Loch Lomond 12yr
Loch Lomond 18yr
Loch Lomond Kerr Cellars

One more thing…

Forbes has arranged to get us a price break on the $3000 bottle of Littlemill 27yr,  a thing of true beauty. The club will buy it for $2000 and it would take 50 of us paying $40 each to cover the cost. Are there 50 of us in this new club? No, but our LA club will soak up the rest, so no worries.

Wonder what that pour of Littlemill 27yr would cost you at a bar (we’re talking a nice Vegas casino to even find it)? Well, it would be a $1000 pour per the standard pricing. Now granted, it would be a full bar pour, so let’s say a $333 pour compared to ours. KC Scotch Club will be sampling this scotch and the rest of the above lineup for $45. Cheers!

While the club is still small enough, we’ll be at Andy’s (new) home in Overland Park.
