Title for The Whisky: The Whisky

Pop-over for our Pop-up! I’ve selected three pairs of complementary whiskies in three different styles for our tasting. We’ll begin with Glen Grant (Speyside) Major’s Reserve, a prototypical aperitif-style dram. Macleod’s Highland Regional Single Malt (from its Glengoyne distillery) is my favorite bargain dram at $40. Bladnoch Samsara (11-yr) is a double-distilled Lowlander and Glen Garioch Founder’s Reserve Highlander are, surprisingly, of a similar astringent whisky style. We’ll finish up with Talisker (Islands) and Ardbeg (Islay) for a big finish. Storm is a bold 45.8% ABV maritime malt whereas our Drum is a Committee Release at 52% ABV (finished in a rum cask called a ‘drum’ aka machine or dump puncheon (500L/132USG) made of thick toasted American oak staves.)
