Bourbon’s Up:
Our menu consists of 4 bourbon and 2 rye whiskeys. A strong candidate for the best ‘value bourbon’ is Jim Beam Black Extra-Aged. At 86-proof, it’s remarkably rich and tasty. From Stanfordville, NY, in the Hudson River Valley, midway between NYC and Albany, there’s an outstanding bourbon distillery! Let’s try Taconic Bourbon, a cognac cask-finished bourbon bottled at 90 proof. Buffalo Trace’s flagship bourbon at 90-proof is next.
The good folks at Dad’s Hat (Craft Whiskey of the Year) distill their 90-Proof Pennsylvania aka Monongahela-style rye in Bristol, just outside of DE. As opposite to the Maryland-style rye, Monongahela ryes use malted rye rather than malted barley. So, it’s is a pre-prohibition rye that was once the most popular whiskey in the US. Angel’s Envy Rye is rum cask finished and bottled at 100-proof.
Our final dram is Rowan’s Creek Bourbon, a 100.1-proofer from Willett Distillery. I hope you can join us and do bring a friend because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”
