All Aboard! Well, It’s Almost That Time

A few of us are getting packed for our 2026 Tour of Scotland, but there is time to share some farewell drams with our fellow MASC members.

We will begin with one of the most successful blended grain whiskies ever released: Compass Box Hedonism, based on the marriage of two fine grain whiskies.

Next up, released in 2014, Talisker Distiller’s Edition is an 11-year-old that was finished for one year in Amoroso sherry casks. Yummy!

We had a great time and tour of Teaninich in 2019, so let’s go with the cask strength Teaninich 10-year-old expression, which the SMWS folks bottled at 55.1% ABV.

Glengoyne also has a cask strength bottled at 58.8% ABV—it is extraordinary to the point that it was awarded a Gold Medal at the ISC in 2013.

From our friend Ian Palmer comes the 8-year-old KinGlassie Double Matured elixir at 46.3% ABV. It was initially aged for five years in first and refill Bourbon and then finished for three years in Amontillado sherry casks.

Now for a big finish, our final dram is Bowmore Dorus Mor, a 10-year-old cask strength monster from the depths of the Dorus Mòr—a fast-moving tidal gate that sits north of Jura and connects the Sound of Jura to the Firth of Lorn. I love this whisky!

We are in for a fun evening of friendship and drams. Do bring a friend, as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”

(Fun fact: Dorus Mòr means “the great door,” while Hedonism means “the pursuit of pleasure.”)
