SUMMARY:Scottish Antifreeze
DESCRIPTION:SCOTTISH ANTIFREEZE: \nI purchase just about every Glen Ord bottling that I come across. In this case\, it is a 2007 indie bottling from Berry Brothers & Rudd (BBR).  It’s a single cask (Bourbon hogshead refill) bottled at 46% ABV. \nI bought a BenRiach 10-year for an estate. It was distilled in 1989-90 during the latter years of Seagram’s ownership. \nCraigellachie 13-year is quiet good. Prior to 2014\, there hadn’t been an official Craigellachie bottling in more than 20 years. This affordable expression made it worth the wait! \nWe don’t see much Edradour around\, but you will wonder why after you taste its Caldonia offering. It’s a 12-year bottled at 46% ABV. After the first 4 so-called sweet whiskeys\, my palate will welcome some well-done peated expressions. \nCaol Ila 12-year is the perfect first peated dram. It’s well-balanced and approachable at 43% ABV. \nOur final dram is Lagavulin 12-year\, the 2019 Special Release at 56.5% ABV. I think that these whiskeys will complement one another and please you. \nDo join us and please bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when enjoyed among friends.” \nWHISKY MENU: 2 Speysides\, 2 Highlands & 2 Islays (Ileach in Scottish Gaelic) \n1. SUMMARY:Sip-tember
DESCRIPTION:SIPPING IN SEPTEMBER: Let’s move around a bit with a Lowland\, 3 Highland\, 2 Islay (one is unpeated)\, and a Japanese single malt. Just outside the Glasgow city limits\, we will try Auchentoshan 12\, a rare triple-distilled Scotland malt. Situated in the Howe of Mearns\, one of the finest barley areas\, Fettercairn 12 is awesome after spending its last 2 years in PX sherry casks. Near the Port Askaig ferry terminal\, the lovely Bunnahabhain 8 was matured in a refilled sherry cask. \nMiyagikyo Distillery is 240-miles north of Tokyo. We will taste is NAS single malt includes unpeated and lightly peat whiskies age in bourbon\, sherry\, and Japanese oak casks. In the northern Highlands 30 miles northwest of Inverness\, Glen Ord is a lovely large distillery. Let’s try its 1997 vintage single cask (bourbon). From Aultmore Distillery via The Single Malt Whisky Society (Leith\, SCO)\, another single cask but bottled at source (cask strength)\, 67.5% ABV (135°). Our final dram is Laphroaig\, Four Oak refers to its maturation which include whisky aged in bourbon\, sherry\, refill\, and virgin oak casks. \nThe only lacking is the pleasure of your good company. SUMMARY:Malt March Madness - Road to the Final Pour
DESCRIPTION:$50 –   http://PayPal.Me/AtlantaScotchClub/50 \nMARCH… SINGLE MALT SCOTCH MADNESS: Let’s kick thing off with the tasty Glen Grant 12-year. If you still have room on your 2023 resolution list\, put buy a bottle of Glen Grant on it. Aultmore Distillery is a gem owned by Bacardi Ltd.  The locals have nicknamed it “Old Foggy Moss” as the road to the distillery seems to always beset by fog. Aultmore 12 is bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtration and is recommended. Have you ever tried a cask strength Balblair? \nBalblair 2006 vintage is a 12-year-old single cask at cask strength 55.2% ABV. In 2017\, The Balvenie released Peated Triple Cask as a global travel retail exclusive. It is a 14-year-old that was bottled at a hearty 48.3% ABV after maturation in a combination of bourbon first-fill\, bourbon refill\, and oloroso sherry casks. But here is the interesting point: it is the first Balvenie ever released based on 100% peated malted barley. Its ppm is 30 which is similar to that of Bowmore. \nMy fave Laphroaig core expression is Quarter Cask! Bottled at 48% ABV\, Laphroaig Quarter Cask is pretty much perfect. It’s non-chillfiltered and no coloration added. We’re going to finish on a high note: Port Charlotte Scottish Barley is 40-ppm marvel bottled at an interesting 50% ABV. It will be fun comparing the Quarter Cask to the Port Charlotte\, so do not miss this one. In summary\, the only thing missing is the presence of your good company. \nDo join us and please bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when enjoyed among friends.” \nWHISKY MENU: 3 Speysiders\, 2 Ileachs (or is it Ileaches)\, and 1 Highlander \n1. SUMMARY:Holiday High-End Tasting
DESCRIPTION:$85 Advance Purchase (note ‘12/29/22 Event’ – don’t mention whisky) \nhttp://PayPal.Me/AtlantaScotchClub/85 \nSome Old\, Most Long-Gone & All Delicious! Our tasting will consist of 4 bottles from my travels and 2 bottles from Dr Tom Lobonc’s extensive whisky collection. \nI’ve patiently awaiting good cause to open my highly-prized bottle of Springbank HMS Campbeltown bottled at 50.5% ABV in 2011 for Springbank Society. This 2001 Vintage gem was conventionally-matured in a port pipe cask of toasted Spanish red oak for 10-years. From 1999-2009\, Dalmore Cigar Malt Reserve was a top-seller with a loyal niche. The marketing staff at Whyte & Mackay erroneously concluded the word ‘cigar’ limited its potential buyers and changed its name to ‘Gran Reserva.’ This resulted in a 70% drop in unit sales (its former niche buyers fled) and a very angry and vocal group of ex Cigar Malt buyers. In 2011\, W&M reintroduced Cigar Malt Reserve as a slightly enhanced expression albeit at a significantly higher price (RRP $235 vs $110). I just love Glenmorangie Signet… a ‘chocolate malt’ wonder that exceeds my memory. This rich elixir is the perfect whisky digestif. Our Bladnoch 26yr old Talia was conventionally-aged in red wine casks of toasted American white oak. I bought it at the distillery (at great expense) to use as the featured dram at a MASC high-end tasting. From Dr. Lobonc’s collection\, Ardbeg 2014 Kildalton Edition and Port Charlotte PC12 introduce peated malts for our final 2 drams. \nIn summary\, it’s the perfect holiday present for you! Do come hungry\, as we’ll have lots of food. Also\, consider inviting friends as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” \nWHISKY: \n1 Campbeltown\, 2 Highland\, 2 Islay\, and 1 Lowland \n1. SUMMARY:Jack is Back
DESCRIPTION:Jack is Back: \nHave numerous treks to the Caribbean\, Jack has returned for numerous rounds of single malt… beginning with 6 on Thursday night.   I mean that I like rum (there it’s ron)\, but it falls short (far short) of single malt. \nLet’s start with the Glengoyne 12\, its first ever core single malt that uses a bit of bourbon cask aged malt. From just across the Irish Sea opposite Campbeltown\, Waterford Dunmore 1.1 organic single malt. The barley was grown at Dunmore farms\, malted locally and bottled at 50% ABV. From the great Glen Grant distillery\, 15 Batch Strength which is also bottled at 50% ABV. GlenDronach is an 18-year-old to die for! Honestly\, one could spend a whole lot of money for an old single malt\, but it wouldn’t represent a better value than GD-18. Now for a big finish: Ardbeg Corryvreckan is da bomb. It’s a cask-strength bourbon cask monster at 57.1% ABV. \nSo\, do come along and bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when\nshared among friends.” \nWHISKY: 2 Highland\, 2 Speyside\, 1 Islay and 1 Irish single malts \n1. SUMMARY:Monthly Tasting – March 2022
DESCRIPTION:http://PayPal.Me/AtlantaScotchClub/50 \nWow! My goal is to move our official monthly tasting to the first Thursday of the month. My means is this flight of delicious single malts. Don’t miss this one! Did you know that Bladnoch\, a fine full-bodied all-rounder\, makes a fine aperitif dram? The good folks at G&M aren’t wasting away in Elgin\, they’re sorting some of the best drams to be had. This 1986 was bottled in 1998 at 11 years-old and 40% ABV. \nMy favorite ‘tweener dram is Kilkerran 12. Made by the masters of Springbank at their Glengyle distillery\, just down the street. I’ll bet that you have not had a Balmenach recently. Why my friends at InverHouse haven’t begun bottling it as a single malt is the great Scottish enigma. I love Teaninich to the point that I buy a bottle upon sight. This single cask/cask strength 2004 jewel was bottled at 54.6% ABV in 2004 (as a 13-year). \nChecking in the from Society is another single cask/cask strength treasure: Blair Athol (home of Bell’s) at 59.1% ABV and 9-years-old based on its 2009 vintage bottling in 2018. Let’s top-off our sojourn with the legendary Black Bowmore (well\, I don’t have that one) Caol Ila 12. No one does it better than the craftsmen (ah\, craftspersons) at the giant Caol Ila distillery. Yes\, they make a lot of it (for the Diageo blends) and the stuff that they bottle is truly top-shelf. \nDo come hungry\, as we will have lots of good food. Invite your friend as good whisky is made great when shared among friends. \nWHISKY \n1 Campbeltown\, 2 Highland\, 1 Islay\, 1 Lowland\, 1 Speyside \n1. SUMMARY:From Scotland with Love
DESCRIPTION:From Scotland With Love (And Ireland With Its Best Regards): \nYes\, it is a busy time and I’ve selected 6 whiskies to tempt you to make an appearance at our 6th of January 2022 tasting event. We haven’t offered a Glen Spey since 2016\, so let’s right that oversight with G&M’s 1995 vintage\, at an apéritif appropriate 43% ABV.  Almost every drop of Glen Spey is used in the J&B Rare Scotch Blend\, so it may be another 5-years till I have a bottle. \nArdnamurchan is an excellent recent release from this modern distillery which is owned by whisky veterans Falconer\, Houston & Bruce. It’s a stunning dram! From Mark Reynier’s Waterford Distillery in Ireland\, we’ll taste Rathclogh 1.1\, an organic single malt bottled at 50% ABV. All of the barley malt was grown at the adjacent Rathclogh farm and malted locally: yummy. \nVinaya is a cracker from the new rock-star of the Lowlands: Bladnoch. It turns out that an Australian millionaire was able to hire away Wm Grant & Son’s top whisky maker under 40-years-old. If you enjoy a happy ending: Vinaya awaits you. \nThe maniacs at SMWS have bottled a 61% ABV Glenlossie and apply named it Tip ‘N Sip. As Glenlossie is typically a gentle blending malt\, this monster will startle you. \nNext\, Malt Advocates’ 2021 Single Malt of the Year: Lagavulin 2021 Offerman Edition 11-year was finished in Guinness casks for 4 months and bottled at 46% sans chill-filtration or coloration. Do come hungry\, as we will have lots of good food. Invite your friends as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” \nWHISKY:   2 Speyside\, 1 Highland\, 1 Lowland\, 1 Islay and 1 Irish \n1. GLEN SPEY Single Malt / 1995 Vintage (11-Yr) / 43% ABV / IB: Gordon & MacPhail (Connoisseurs Choice range) / Dist Owner: Diageo Scotland Ltd. (Diageo plc) / Speyside (Rothes) \n2. DESCRIPTION:Something Old\, Something New: First up: Glenlivet 12 a grand dram of the aperitif style and one that should be re-visited. Iwai Tradition is a blended Japanese whisky from Mars Shinshu distillery\, situated up in the Japanese Alps.  We’ve been following Hautes Glaces since Rémy bought the distillery in 2017. Les Moissons is an organic single malt which was made\, interestingly\, up in the French Alps. I’ll bet that you haven’t had a Mannochmore recently. Other than the only available at the distillery offering\, I’ve never seen an official bottling of Mannochmore. Thanks to the good folks at G&M\, we can try a 16-\nyear-old independent bottling. SUMMARY:A Round Trip Flight
DESCRIPTION:A Round-Trip Flight: Round-trip? As the laddies and lasses at our 6/24/21 tasting rather enjoyed Fettercairn 24 and Laphroaig Cairdeas 2018 Edition drams\, let’s try Fettercairn 20-year and Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014 Edition. \nWe will begin with Glen Grant’s lovely The Major’s Reserve and Tamdhu 10yr\, a sherried-single malt.  Following the aforementioned Fettercairn 20\, let’s taste a cask strength Balmenach 10 from a single-cask selected by Scotch Malt Whisky Society. As the distillery doesn’t bottle any single malt (it’s all used for blending)\, let’s thank the folks at SMWS for bottling this terrific whisky! Next up is the tasty Caol Ila Moch! This is a whisky that requires the staff to select only those casks that have subtle and well-balanced barley grain and light charred cask wood aromas. Caol Ila\, for my money\, is the most complex\, delicious and interesting Islay dram. You can’t go wrong with CI 12\, 18 and Moch. Want to contemplate life or the theory of relativity? Do it while sipping Caol Ila. \nPlease join us and do bring a friend as ‘good whisky is made great when shared among friends.’ \nWHISKY MENU: \n1. SUMMARY:Synergy of Malt
DESCRIPTION:Let’s Do This! \nWe’re excited about our flight of 6 single malt whiskies. They fit together quite nicely to the point of creating synergies… the whole is greater than the sum of its component parts. We’ve based our flight on 3 pairings: Tullibardine (light aperitif whisky and Tomatin (a sherry-finished ‘Tweener’ dram)\, Bladnoch (a bold all-rounder) and GlenDronach 15 (an elegant sherry bomb)\, and Amrut Spectrum (a rich digestif) and Caol Ila (a cask-strength but balanced peated digestif). If you’re not a peated whisky lover\, this is the tasting for you (there’s only one peated dram). I hope that you can join us and do bring a friend as ‘good whisky is made great when shared among friends.’ \nWHISKY MENU: Yes\, this is the time to use that hall pass \n1. SUMMARY:April Celebration
DESCRIPTION:April Celebration: \nOur tasting includes 3 fine cask strength single malts\, 1 single grain\, 2 single malts at 46%; all are non-chillfiltered. Loch Lomond is our single grain entry. It’s 100% malted barley\, but distilled on a twin column still (thus disqualifying it from being a single malt). Such whisky is called a ‘silent malt’. Until it was discontinued a couple of years ago\, its best-seller was Arran 14-Year. \nGlenDronach Port Wood 10-year is a tasty new core expression. From the Scotch Malt Whisky Society\, we will taste 2 cask strength whiskies: Blair Athol (59.1% ABV) and Teaninich 55.1% ABV. Our final whisky is one we have unsuccessfully searched for since September 2019: Lagavulin’s 2019 Special Release @ 56.5% ABV.  My thanks to Raj who hunted in down. \nWe hope that you can join us and do bring a friend as ‘good whisky is made great when shared among friends.’ \nWHISKY MENU: \n1. Highland Park Ice Edition is a 2016 vintage (17-yo) limited release at 53.9% ABV. SUMMARY:Black Friday Bundle
DESCRIPTION:The best remedy for any lingering ‘turkey overdose’ and ‘over-shopping’ evils is Scotch whisky and I’m quite sure that you’ll find my Rx most enjoyable. This Glencadam is da bomb! I just love this style of whisky\, because it for its unique taste and interesting complexity. Glenlivet Triple Cask Matured is the half-step in strength that sought in a #2 slot whisky. Here’s a lovely dram that is currently missing from Arran’s core line-up: Arran 14-Year. But there’s no need for us to bemoan its absence: I have a bottle. Glengoyne is a mellow highlander at its 43-46% ABV typical strength. But it’s a bit of a beast at cask strength. \nThere are many fine cask strength ranges available from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society\, Signatory\, Gordon & MacPhail and\, most recently\, Battlehill. Unlike the other independent bottlers\, Battlehill costs $50 a bottle. While they’re young CS whiskies\, only fully-matured casks are selected. Let’s try BH’s Royal Brackla\, an awesome 5-year-old offering at 58% ABV. Let’s top it off with a lovely dram of Port Charlotte Scottish Barley. \nWe hope that you can join our Black Friday tasting and do bring a friend because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” \nWHISKY MENU: \n1. GLENCADAM Single Malt / ‘Origin 1825’ / NAS / 40% ABV / OB / Dist Owner: Angus Dundee Distillers Plc / Highland (Eastern) \n2. SUMMARY:The Connoisseurs Choice
DESCRIPTION:5 Speyside & 1 Islay Single Malts: We’ve got some interesting bottles of 5 Connoisseur Choice expressions from distilleries seldom seen in Georgia. When was the last time you saw a bottle (or heard the name uttered) of Auchroisk\, Balmenach and Inchgower? And although you may have heard of Glenrothes and GlenAllachie\, our 8-year Glenrothes and 14-year GlenAllachie were distilled decades ago. \nThis will also be an ‘explore Speyside’ tasting as they hail from 3 different districts: Central Spey (3)\, Rothes (1) and Livet (1). Our final dram is from Kildalton district on Islay’s southern shore: Lagavulin Distillery. It’s the 2018 special release of Lagavulin 12-yr. This cask strength beauty was matured in first-fill bourbon barrels. After 5 Speysiders\, please be assured you that your palate will welcome Lagavulin! SUMMARY:Tour de Écosse - the 3 styles
DESCRIPTION:Pop-over for our Pop-up!  I’ve selected three pairs of complementary whiskies in three different styles for our tasting. We’ll begin with Glen Grant (Speyside) Major’s Reserve\, a prototypical aperitif-style dram.  Macleod’s Highland Regional Single Malt (from its Glengoyne distillery) is my favorite bargain dram at $40. Bladnoch Samsara (11-yr) is a double-distilled Lowlander and Glen Garioch Founder’s Reserve Highlander are\, surprisingly\, of a similar astringent whisky style.  We’ll finish up with Talisker (Islands) and Ardbeg (Islay) for a big finish.  Storm is a bold 45.8% ABV maritime malt whereas our Drum is a Committee Release at 52% ABV (finished in a rum cask called a ‘drum’ aka machine or dump puncheon (500L/132USG) made of thick toasted American oak staves.)  We hope to see you at Maxwell’s Cigar Bar in Woodstock… and do bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”WHISKY MENU:  6 Single Malts: 1 Lowlands\, 2 Highlands\, 1 Speyside\, I Islands & 1 Islay\n\nGLEN GRANT Single Malt / The Major’s Reserve / NAS / 40% ABV / OB / Dist Owner: Gruppo Campari (Davide Campari-Milano S.p.A.) / Speyside (Rothes)\nMacLEOD’s Single Malt Scotch Whisky / ‘Highland’ / NAS / 43% ABV / IB: Glengoyne Dist / Dist Owner: IMD / Brand Owner: Ian Macleod and Co. SUMMARY:Quest for Whisky with Ed Kohl
DESCRIPTION:Dare to Dram? Our lineup is most promising as the six expressions match up nicely. Heart of Speyside from BenRiach’s is a fine aperitif dram! Glenlivet’s Triple Cask Matured is next. It’s aged in a combo of bourbon\, sherry and refill casks. GlenAllachie 12 is matured in a mixture of virgin oak\, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and is awesome. Yes\, we have been holding out on you: Amrut Naarangi is da bomb. Wolfburn’s Langskip is matured  exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks and is bottled at a generous 58% ABV\, making it a particularly powerfully flavorsome dram. \nAnd\, for a big close\, the Port Askaig: 110-Proof. Hailing from Caol Ila\, possibly the greatest and definitely the largest of Islay’s 9 active distilleries\, PA-110 is bottled at an attention gathering 55% ABV.  We hope that you are able to join us and bring a friend. SUMMARY:Dare to Dram
DESCRIPTION:Dare to Dram? \nOur lineup is most promising as the six expressions matchup nicely. Heart of Speyside from BenRiach’s is a fine aperitif dram! \nGlenlivet’s Triple Cask Matured is next. It’s aged in a combo of bourbon\, sherry and refill casks. \nGlenAllachie 12 is matured in a mixture of virgin oak\, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and is awesome. \nYes\, we have been holding out on you: Amrut Naarangi is da bomb. Wolfburn’s Langskip is matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks and is bottled at a generous 58% ABV\, making it a particularly powerfully flavorsome dram. \nAnd\, for a big close\, a favorite Port Askaig: 110-Proof. Hailing from Caol Ila\, possibly the greatest and definitely the largest of Islay’s 9 active distilleries\, PA-110 is bottled at an attention gathering 55% ABV. I hope that you are able to join us and bring a friend. Why? Because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” \nWHISKY MENU: \n\nBENRIACH Single Malt / ‘Heart of Speyside’ (Classic range) /\nNAS / 40% ABV / OB / Dist Owner: Brown-Forman Scotland Ltd\n(Brown-Forman Corp./The Brown Family) / Speyside (Lossie)\n. SUMMARY:Rhum Ron Rum Part 2
DESCRIPTION:“Think rum\, think Caribbean\, think 90-degrees”  Rum is a spirit that’s distilled either from fermented molasses (a by-product from sugar refining making) or freshly-pressed sugar cane juice.  Because of its base material\, molasses-based rums generally have a sweet note and flavors of molasses\, banana and tropical fruit (their complexity is ramped up by aging them in barrels)\, while those made with sugar cane juice (like rhum agricole and Cachaça) have pronounced grassy and vegetal notes.  Rum is made in sugar cane producing countries\, especially those in the Caribbean.  Very aged versions are generally sipped neat\, while unaged and lesser aged spirits are mixed in classic Tiki and modern cocktails. \nPlantation owners first discovered that molasses fermented into alcohol. Later\, distillation of the alcoholic brew concentrated the alcohol and removed impurities\, producing the first true rums. Tradition suggests that rum first originated on the island of Barbados. As it’s a delightful flight\, do please join us and bring a friend as “good whisky (and RUM) is made great when shared among friends.”

SUMMARY:Breaking Out the Good Stuff
DESCRIPTION:“After 10-days\, it’s time for a Break” So\, we’re breaking out the good\nstuff: 6 single malts and lots of comfort food. \nGlen Moray Sherry Cask Finish (Speyside) is the key malt in two of the top ten best-selling Blended Scotches: Label 5 and Sir Edwards. With its capacity of 6-Mlpa (and plans to increase it to 9-Mlpa)\, its owner is now making a big effort in the US Single Malt Scotch market. That translates into attractive (low) pricing for us. \nGlen Ord 15 (Highland) is awesome stuff. It’s available at three places:\nJapan\, Taiwan and Glen Ord’s shop (the origin of our bottle). \nGlen Fohdry 12 (Speyside) is actually Kininvie Distillery 12\, something you seldom see in our market. \nGlenDronach 18 ‘Allardice’ is da bomb! If you’ve not tried it\, you’re in for a real treat! \nI bought our bottle of Aultmore 2011 vintage at the quarterly SMWSA tasting in Roswell. It’s a cask strength single cask at 67.5% ABV (135-proof) and just a great dram. \nCaol Ila 12 is expensive at $80\, but there’s a reason that I keep buying it: it is so well-made and complex that I call it the ‘thinking person’s dram’. Its package and label are way out-of-date and unattractive\, but it is one of my favorite peated dram. \nAs it’s a delightful flight\, do please join us and bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”
