SUMMARY:Scottish Antifreeze
DESCRIPTION:SCOTTISH ANTIFREEZE: \nI purchase just about every Glen Ord bottling that I come across. In this case\, it is a 2007 indie bottling from Berry Brothers & Rudd (BBR).  It’s a single cask (Bourbon hogshead refill) bottled at 46% ABV. \nI bought a BenRiach 10-year for an estate. It was distilled in 1989-90 during the latter years of Seagram’s ownership. \nCraigellachie 13-year is quiet good. Prior to 2014\, there hadn’t been an official Craigellachie bottling in more than 20 years. This affordable expression made it worth the wait! \nWe don’t see much Edradour around\, but you will wonder why after you taste its Caldonia offering. It’s a 12-year bottled at 46% ABV. After the first 4 so-called sweet whiskeys\, my palate will welcome some well-done peated expressions. \nCaol Ila 12-year is the perfect first peated dram. It’s well-balanced and approachable at 43% ABV. \nOur final dram is Lagavulin 12-year\, the 2019 Special Release at 56.5% ABV. I think that these whiskeys will complement one another and please you. \nDo join us and please bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when enjoyed among friends.” \nWHISKY MENU: 2 Speysides\, 2 Highlands & 2 Islays (Ileach in Scottish Gaelic) \n1. SUMMARY:Scotch with the Smiths
DESCRIPTION:Our Gracious Hostess Phyllis Smith has invited us to have our October tasting event at her lovely home in Roswell. operational in 2018) during our recent trip to Scotland. We will begin our tasting with a stunting Dailuaine indie bottling from James Eadie Whisky Co. \nRegrettably\, James (1827-1904) is not expected to join us. I bet you have not had any Auchroisk recently! Let’s try a 10-year expression which Battlehill bottled at 43% AVB. I found a rather scarce bottle of Ben Nevis 10-year. It has been in short supply in recent years as owner Nikka has been using 50% of Ben Nevis production in its Nikka Malt. That has changed as Japanese regulations now provide that only whisky mashed\, fermented\, distilled\, aged\, and bottled in Japan can be labeled as ‘Japanese Whisky.’ I recommend that you look for Ben Nevis as it is among the top-20 single malt whiskies in Scotland. \nThat said\, many join me is stating that Springbank is the best whisky in Scotland. We will try the 10-year which is distilled 2.5 times and bottled at 46% ABV without filtration or coloration agents. \nSpringbank’s wash stills are direct-fired (flame against the bottom of the pot still) and no computers are involved in its production. After Springbank\, one should follow-on with a legendary whisky such as Highland Park. I’ve selected Valknut\, a 46.8% ABV offering which is also NCF with no coloring added. Now for our big finish: MacNair’s Lum Reek is a peated 12 yr blended malt produced by GlenAllachie Dist. and an undisclosed Islay distillery (Caol Ila is the most likely candidate). It was conventionally-aged in a combination of Bourbon\, Pedro Ximénez sherry and red wine casks. Yummy! The only thing rivaling Phyllis’ hospitality and our whisky flight at her lovely home is the tasty food that Phyllis will share with us. So\, do come along and bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” \nWHISKY: \n1. DAILUAINE Single Malt / 10-Year / 46% ABV / NCF / IB: James Eadie\nWhisky Co. SUMMARY:AnCnoc/Arran with Sunita Aggarwal
DESCRIPTION:THIS IS THE RESCHEDULE FOR OCTOBER.  So\, if you couldn’t go in July\, you have a second shot. \nIf you already booked before\, nothing to do.  If you booked and there is an issue\, let us know. \n———————————– \nSunita Aggarwal of Hotaling will be joining us to share in a night of An Cnoc and Arran. AnCnoc is the brand name used by the Knockdhu distillery so as not to be confused with the Knockando distillery. Arran\, although a newer distillery has a bit more notoriety as the brand has been seen on the shelves in the US a bit longer. Arran is also a brand name as it is actually made at the Lochranza distillery which was until recently the only one on the Isle of Arran. Both of these are fabulous scotches and if you don’t know much about them… you will soon. \nWe’ll include food and will be at Mercerwood Shore Club. \nThe Whisky \nAnCnoc 12yr\nAnCnoc 18yr\nArran 10 year\nArran Quarter Cask\nArran Sherry Cask\nArran Sauternes Cask\nArran Amarone Finish\nArran 25yr

SUMMARY:Glen Scotia w/Iain McAlister - 25yr buy in
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: THE EVENT PURCHASE WILL BE AT THE DRAMMERS SITE. YOU SHOULD ALREADY HAVE A TICKET BEFORE YOU PURCHASE THE ADD ON GLEN SCOTIA 25YR DRAM. \nTHIS PURCHASE IS FOR A HALF OZ POUR OF GLEN SCOTIA 25YR (NORMALLY $600 PER BOTTLE) \n—-$5—- \nWe are so excited for this event\, and we want to give you some context one how rare it is — this will be Iain McAlister’s first trip to the United States in over a decade. He will only be in Austin for one night\, and this event is it\, one of only 5 stops he’s making across the United States on this trip. Glen Scotia of course needs little introduction — founded in 1832\, it is located in the fabled Campbeltown region of Scotland alongside Springbank. \nHistorically\, this was the biggest of the 5 regions of Scotch whisky making — with over 30 distilleries in the lead up to the 1920s\, it was seen by many as the “whisky capital of the world”\, until it crashed in the turbulence of the 1920s\, such that Glen Scotia and Springbank were the only two to survive. Glen Scotia naturally went through a series of ownership changes through the centuries\, and it’s not an understatement to say that it reached a real turning point with the hiring of Iain McAlister in 2008. Iain was born and bred in Campbeltown\, and turned to a career in whisky after earlier working as an engineer for Scottish Water. \nIn his role as Distillery Manager\, Iain oversees all aspects of the actual distillation — and just about everything else at Glen Scotia (keep in mind what an intimate team they have running Glen Scotia\, last we checked\, they had a team of only 7 employees!). Under Iain’s steady leadership\, the reputation of the distillery has grown by leaps and bounds\, culminating in 2021 when they did the unheard of — they won both World’s Best Whisky (overall\, all categories) at the San Francisco Spirits Competition AND were named Best Scottish Whisky Distillery at the Scottish Whisky Awards (the first time any distillery had won both in the same year). And with the release of innovative expressions like the Victoriana\, their reputation only continues to grow. It doesn’t hurt that Iain is one of the nicest and friendliest people we’ve ever met. \nSo this tasting will be a celebration of Glen Scotia\, a big warm welcome to our friend Iain McAlister\, and a chance to try some truly rare and special Glen Scotia bottlings — including a new\, unreleased expression called The Mermaid! \nHere’s our anticipated lineup for the event\, drumroll please…. \nGlen Scotia – Double Cask\, matured in American oak and finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks\, 46% abv \nGlen Scotia – 15yo\, 46% abv \nGlen Scotia – Victoriana\, finished in deep charred oak casks\, 54.2% abv \nGlen Scotia – Private Single Cask – 10yo Peated\, Ex-Bourbon Cask #19/380-37\, 1 of 242 bottles\, 55.6% abv. Distilled 2010. \nGlen Scotia – Private Single Cask – 7yo Unpeated\, Ex-Bourbon Cask #740\, 1 of 215 bottles\, 56.1% abv. Distilled 2012. \nGlen Scotia – Private Single Cask – 6yo Unpeated\, 1st Fill Oloroso Sherry Hogshead\, Cask #21/769-4\, 1 of 230 bottles\, distilled 2016\, bottled 2023. Cask strength 56.5% abv. \nNEW & UNRELEASED – Glen Scotia – Icons of Campbeltown – Release No. 1 of 3\, The Mermaid\, Limited edition\, Unpeated\, finished for 8 months in a Palo Cortado Cask\, 54.1% abv. This is a real treat — our understanding is that this bottle won’t be released in the United States until approximately January! \nGLEN SCOTIA 25YR (PURCHASE 1/2 OZ BONUS POUR BELOW) \nHow about that for a lineup! Fair warning — some of this will be coming in suitcases\, etc.\, so while we think it’s unlikely\, there’s always a chance a bottle won’t make it and we’ll have to make an adjustment to the lineup — though in the rare case that does happen\, usually it ends up being something even better\, ha. We’ll also order in light food (likely pizza) which will be included in the event. A big thank you to Juan and Denise Garcia for hosting us\, they’re located about 10 minutes West of downtown\, and we’ll circulate the address to the folks who sign up. \nA huge thank you to Iain\, Forbes and everyone at Loch Lomond and Sean and everyone at Blue Ridge who together made this incredible event possible. We hope you can join us! Please let us know if you have any questions. \nCheers!\nDrammers Club Austin & Austin Scotch Club

SUMMARY:Whisky and Aganorsa Cigars
DESCRIPTION:INTRODUCING PAUL WALKER… Aganorsa’s GA Executive & Our Seminar Leader.  As every day the reputation of AGANORSA LEAF spreads\, Aganorsa continues to be dedicated to educating cigar aficionados regarding the unique taste and aroma that give our tobacco its signature flavors. During this seminar\, you will have the chance to taste components of our blends to experience how each tobacco contributes to the whole cigar and appreciate what makes Aganorsa Leaf unique from all other tobaccos. \nAND THERE’S MORE… Each attendee will receive 2 fumas (a cigar made for the workers\, not available as such retail) in the form of a Aganorsa corojo Churchill (7×47) and an Aganorsa Anniversario Robusto 5×52 (Corojo or Maduro\, depending on your preference). \nAND EVEN MORE… Each attendee will have the opportunity to pair the tasty Aganorsa cigars with 4 pours of quality whisk(e)y: MACALLAN 12 single malt\, MICHTER’S US1 Rye\, HIGHLAND PARK 12 single malt\, and WHISTLEPIG 10 Rye. \nSo… do please join us and do also bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when enjoyed among friends.” \nAganorsa Leaf is an absolute powerhouse in the cigar industry. Producing some of the best tobacco in the game with some old school Cuban techniques. Being utilized in some of the most popular blends only adds to their credibility. According to Eduardo Fernandez\, the Aganorsa Leaf is what happens when you combine Cuban seeds that are cultivated by Cuban farmers in the rich fertile soils of Nicaragua.  And\, the Aganorsa Leaf Validación Connecticut (formerly known as Casa Fernandez Aganorsa Connecticut) is a prime example of this unique combination. With its exquisite Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper and exclusive Aganorsa Leaf Nicaraguan binder and filler\, the Aganorsa Leaf Validación Connecticut is one premium cigar you will want to keep in your regular rotation. The cigars undergo a rigorous quality control process before they are finally released. They call it “Validación\,” which is Spanish for validation or validating. So\, when they decided to release their own blends under the Aganorsa brand\, we got a little excited to say the least. \nWHISKY MENU: 2 American Rye & 2 Scotch Single Malt Whiskies \n1. SUMMARY:Murray McDavid with Ed Kohl
DESCRIPTION:Murray McDavid: A TOP-TIER INDIE BOTTLER. An exciting event with ED KOHL\, Master Keeper of the Quaich\, and CEO of Keeper’s Quest Brands. Ed is the USA importer of the acclaimed MURRAY McDAVID Single Malt collection. \nDailuaine\, although rarely seen on the shelves of Georgia package stores\, is one of my favorite single malts. I describe it as a friendly (approachable) dram with fruity\, citrus flavors. Linkwood\, a member of the light Speyside camp\, offers a combination of texture and delicacy prized by blenders (JW and White Horse) and much loved by single malt aficionados. Mannochmore (Glenlossie Distillery’s site mate) is a light floral whisky that gains delicate fruit notes as it matures. It is also a blending malt and is the key malt in the Haig range as well as a Johnnie Walker component malt. \nGlen Elgin is a smooth\, mellow\, and sweetly honeyed dram which is rated as a top-class blending malt. It is the key malt in the White Horse range and is found in the JW series. Smoky Scot single malt is sourced from the great Caol Ila Distillery\, Islay’s largest. Despite using the same malted barley (34-38 ppm) as Lagavulin and Port Ellen\, Caol Ila produces a well-balance dram with amazing complexities and elegance. Croftengea is a heavily peated malt spirit used as a blending component by Loch Lomond distillery\, but also released periodically as a single cask single malt. As the blenders use a bit of heavy-peated malt in their blends\, my friends at Loch Lomond use Croftengea in its popular blends: High Commissioner\, Scots Earl\, and Loch Lomond. \nDo join us and bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when enjoyed among friends.” \nWHISKY MENU: 4 Speyside\, 1 Highland\, 1 Islay Single Malt \n1. SUMMARY:Jump into June - New Releases
DESCRIPTION:$50 Zelle 6787334757 – Venmo Jaxjrone@gmail.com – Cash At The Door \nJUMP INTO JUNE… NEW TO MARKET SINGLE MALTS: \nYou are invited to join us for a great evening of whisky fellowship\, delicious food\, and the enjoyment visiting Phyllis Smith at her lovely home! Isle of \nRaasay is a very promising dram from its new distillery near Isle of Skye. Pōkeno SM hails from NZL and is the latest Discovery of Chuck Crouse. Ikikko is the new Japanese SM made on Iki island which has a been growing massive barley crops since the 16th century. \nI’m from L.A. but our next dram is from the other L.A. (lower Alabama): John Emerald is a well-made SM made from smoke barley malt. Distiller Jimmy Sharp attended the Springbank Whisky Academy and knows his trade. Jeffrey and I were delighted to partake in MacLeod’s Islay Regional Malt: it is terrific and one that Lagavulin fans will covet. And\, for a big send-off\, Levant Heights is a tasty Lebanese SM made in the foothills of Mount Hermon. \nIf you like Glenmorangie’s Signet (and I certainly do!)\, you will certainly enjoy Dark Malt made with heavily roasted Lebanese Imperial malted barley at the Riachi Distillery. \nDo not miss this one as the only thing missing is the presence of your good company. SUMMARY:Compass Box with Scott Ellis
DESCRIPTION:Join Denver Scotch Club and Compass Box ambassador Scott Ellis on a tour through some of John Glaser’s best whiskies. Compass Box isn’t a distillery\, it’s a brand that takes malts from all over Scotland and blends them into new and amazing whiskies. The founder\, John Glaser\, is a bonafide genius when it comes to making a whisky greater than the sum of its parts. \nScott will discuss John’s mad genius\, but of course you will get to judge his skills for yourself… in a glass. Scott will be bringing in six whiskies and the club (us) will be throwing in Compass Box’s current priciest selection\, the Vellichor. \nThe Compass Box Whisky\nHedonism\nDelos\nOrchard House\nPeat Monster\nPeat Monster Cask Strength\nUltramarine\nVellichor

SUMMARY:Alt Cask II
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\nWhen we talk about casks\, we’re usually talking about Bourbon barrels or Sherry butts (usually oloroso)\, but there are plenty of other types of casks used to mature whisky. About six years ago we did a tasting of malts aged in some of the less usual casks\, (and a good time was had by all) but that only scratched the surface of what’s available. We’ve assembled a selection of malts from five additional less-than-ordinary woods\, plus an Irish whiskey so unique we had to throw it in. \nTHE WHISKY\nGlenmorangie Spios “Private Edition #9” (Rye)\nDeanston 18yr. Email RSVPs only – Facebook responses don’t count. \nThere will be a limit on the number of participants. \nAnd just a reminder (since it’s come up a couple of times lately) – all of our events\, except those few specifically designated “Members only\,” are open to anyone over 21. SUMMARY:Craigellachie's List
DESCRIPTION:By popular demand from the member’s of SD Scotch Club\, we are going to delve a little bit into a distillery whose name is out there\, mostly because of Diageo\, but doesn’t get the attention that other single malts get. Does it deserve more attention\, or should it be put on the shelves we use for Christmas parties with the neighbors? Let’s try six of these and see if we can wrap our minds around what is Craigellachieness. We’ll be doing some nice solid 1oz pours for all but the 23yr (3/4oz) so that we can make a proper decision.  This is a lot of whisky\, so plan your trip home wisely. \nThis event will be in Rancho Bernardo at a member’s patio (great views\, you’ll love it). Included in admission will be a pulled pork dinner smoked by our host\, Lord Bernard\, for 24hrs. \nCraigellachie’s List\nCraigellachie 13yr\nCraigellachie 13yr Armagnac\nCraigellachie 17yr\nCraigellachie 15yr Old Particular (K&L private cask)\nCraigellachie 12yr Sovereign (K&L private cask)\nCraigellachie 23yr

SUMMARY:Resurrection II
DESCRIPTION:It is our custom to gather in the Fall to remember distilleries that have left this mortal plane. But Spring is a time of rebirth\, and so this month we come together to celebrate a few of those distilleries that were once lost\, seemingly for good\, but that have sprung back to life. \nWe did a Zoom version of this two years ago. It was largely an excuse to get together (virtually) and crack open a rare Bruichladdich Resurrection Dram. Well\, another unicorn has fallen into our lap\, so we’re doing it again\, only this time in person. The star of this show will be Glenglassaugh “The First Cask\,” one of only 650 bottles drawn from the very first cask filled after the distillery went back on line in 2008\, and bottled the second it was old enough to be called Whisky. Is it any good? Hard to say\, but we’re pretty sure that this will be your only chance\, ever\, to find out. \nBen Nevis 21yr. Faultline 1995\nBraeval 7yr. SMWS 113.24 2011\nGlenallachie 11yr. The forecast is dry\, but chilly. \n-$55-\nVenmo (Brett-Perkins-3 – look for the OCSC Coat-of-Arms) or PayPal (preparator27@yahoo.com). \nPlease use the “Friends and Family” option (when they ask “is this payment for goods or services?” you say “No”). We no longer accept payments from Meta (Facebook) or Zelle.
