SUMMARY:Scotch per Martha's Request
DESCRIPTION:“Martha’s Request” Why not have our tasting on November 20th? As I couldn’t think of a reason not to\, that’s our event date. We’ll start with Heart of Speyside\, a terrific aperitif style dram from BenRiach Distillery. I’m over the moon about the new Tullibardine Artisan\, a delicious single malt. From the Harris Distillery on the Isle of Lewis\, The Hearach is a lightly- peated young\, but fully mature single malt. I brought a bottle of the fine Springbank 10 Year back from Scotland\, as it’s seldom been available in Atlanta for 5 years. Tragically so: it’s my go-to dram! Next is The Balvenie 14-Year Peated Triple Cask\, checking in at 48.3% ABV and 30-ppm. I do prefer The Balvenie at 48% ABV or higher as the higher strength assuages its sometimes-excessive sweetness. Our final dram is Smokehead’s top bottling\, High Voltage at 58% ABV without chill-filtration or coloration. Oh\, my\, this is a must have fine value single malt! If this was labeled as Lagavulin\, which is its origin\, it would sell for $180-230 a bottle. So\, do join us and bring a friend\, because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” \nJoin our dram family… November 20\, 2025 is a good date! \nWHISKY MENU \n1. SUMMARY:The Twelves
DESCRIPTION:“Twelve Years: Too Old for a Car; Too Young to Vote; Perfect for Dramming” I know someone that is weary of hearing folks utter demeaning and inaccurate things about thesingle malts in the 12-year-old and under category. He/She/They/Them/It may have a valid point. Let’s explore the world of Scotch single malt whisky. \nLoch Lomond 12 Year has received Gold medals at the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition for 7 consecutive years (2019-25)\, earning it ‘Hall of Fame’ status. TWSC also awarded LL12 the 2025 Best Value award. Glenglassaugh 12 Year was produced by Billy Walker after his 2008 purchase of the distillery. GG12 was triple matured in bourbon\, sherry\, and red wine casks. I bought the last bottle of Glen Scotia 12 Year at the distillery shop last month. This is the new 12-year core bottling\, as the former 12-year was dropped in 2020. Glenfarclas 12 Year was conventionally matured in Oloroso sherry casks. The casks were toasted (not charred) with the majority being Spanish red oak. Kilkerran 12 Year is a core expression bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtering or artificial coloration. It was made at Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown and couldn’t be called Glengyle as that name is owned by another bottler. Our final dram in Caol Ila 12 Year\, a beautifully balanced Islay single malt. I find it to be an elegant bourbon barrel aged whisky with just the right level of peatiness. \nSo\, do join us and bring a friend\, because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” Join our family… \nWHISKY MENU \n1. The 1852 distillery has evolved into a 5.2 million litres of pure alcohol per year producer. Armorik is the best French single malt. We will taste its Double Maturation\, a 46% bottling. \nHow is Glenrothes 1995 vintage single malt? I bought 3 bottles; this is my last one. Now I urge you to discover Edradour single malt. I’ve chosen its 10-year flagship\, a 43% ABV bottling. GlenAllachie’s 10-year expression will command your attention as it is a batch strength bottling at 57.1% ABV. Our final dram will also be a good one: Lagavulin 12-year\, a 2018 release at 57.8% ABV. \nSo\, do join us and bring a friend\, because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” Join our dram family… \nWHISKY MENU \n1. SUMMARY:Why Clynelish
DESCRIPTION:Clynelish whisky has long been held in high regard by “people who know.” But because it is also a workhorse for blenders\, official expressions are fairly rare\, and even indie bottlings can be pretty scarce. For this month’s tasting\, we’ve assembled a nice introduction to this special distillery. \nThe Clynelish\nClynelish Reserve Game of Thrones House Tyrell\nClynelish 10yr. SUMMARY:Bowmore with Rich Varga
DESCRIPTION:Every once in a while LASC does a BIG one and here it is. The club hasn’t done a Bowmore tasting since perhaps 2011 and that is way too long and we need to revisit this premier distillery and old favorite. Beam-Suntory’s  infamous brand ambassador\, Rich Varga\,  will be presenting Bowmore’s new core sherry collection\, but since this is an LA Scotch Club tasting\, we’ll be going far beyond that. Dusty boxes of rare Bowmores have been waiting for over a decade for this event; so we’ll also go on a trip to the past to visit Bowmore bottles from 20+ years ago in order to do a side-by-side comparison on how Bowmore has changed over the decades. And then\, for the fun of it\, we’ll try some rare $800 collectibles\, Voyage  and Claret. \nThis is NOT one to miss. \nThe Core Sherry Range\nBowmore 12yr\nBowmore 15yr\nBowmore 18yr\nBowmore 21yr \nThe LASC Bowmore Collection\nBowmore 12yr Seagull Label\nBowmore Legend Seagull Label\nBowmore 15yr Darkest Seagull Label\nBowmore 17yr Seagull Label\nBowmore 21yr Seagull Label\nBowmore Voyage\nBowmore Claret \nWe will be on the GlenArden patio where you may order food. \n

SUMMARY:Superlative Spirits - Small Batch Rum - SD
DESCRIPTION:Those who know\, know that this will be something special.  We don’t often flirt with other spirits here at the San Diego SCOTCH Club\, but I (Adam) was so impressed by Ryan’s rum offerings at Peatin’ that we (Ryan and Adam) agreed we needed a San Diego Rum event featuring Superlative and friends.  Nim has graciously offered to host us poolside to add to the tropical atmosphere. Address will be provided to all attendees\, it’s in Del Mar\, near Del Mar Height rd. and Camino Del Mar (101). \n  \nJoin us as we visit some elite small batch selections that are the “single malts” of their world. Not one\, but THREE independent rum bottlers will share their finds and creations and tell you their stories. Ryan Gilbertie of Superlative Spirits distributes these additive-free premium rums. \n\n  \nRum List\nBedford Park- Foursquare 2006 17yr Single Bourbon Cask 59.6% (Barbados)\nMainland- California 8yr Single Bourbon Barrel 64%\nMainland- Louisiana 10yr Single Bourbon Barrel 60.4%\nRaising Glasses- Filumena- Single Sherry Cask 58.1% (Canada)\nRaising Glasses- Pelee’s Fury 3- Grand Arome 62.5% (Martinique)\nRaising Glasses- Perennia- Caroni 27yr Single Cask 58% (Trinidad)\nRoaming Road- Worthy Park 12yr Single Cask 64.1% (Jamaica)\nRum Et Al- Baseline Micro Batch 2 Still Strength 75% (Los Angeles)\nBONUS POUR- Foursquare 10yr Criterion 56% \n  \n\nA little more about Ryan and the Superlative Spirits story:\n\n  \nRum is the most diverse spirits in the world with the complexity and terroir to match any good Bourbon\, Scotch or Tequila. Additive free\, cask strength rum has been popular in Europe for 30 years but sadly almost none of it makes it to the US. Instead (with a few exceptions) we’re inundated with mid to bottom tier rums made for mixing\, bottled at 80 proof\, and brimming with added sugar\, \nflavoring\, and God knows what else. \n  \nBut that’s all about to change. Now\, for the first time ever\, US-based independent bottlers\, importers\, and American distilleries are releasing seriously sippable rums to the US market. I started Superlative Spirits Distribution to be the link between these new producers and the California consumer. To show the discerning spirits drinker that rum isn’t just for mixing anymore. It can be seriously sippable and stand up against the best distillates in the world from any category. \n  \nMainland Rum: \n  \nSeth Benhaim is the founder of Mainland Rum\, a pioneering American rum brand redefining the category with cask strength\, single barrel expressions. Known for his work with Infuse Spirits and Broken Barrel Whiskey\, Seth has built a reputation as a bold innovator and barrel hunter in the world of craft spirits. With Mainland Rum\, he brings a new vision for American rum\, enhancing its perception from pirate and tiki cliché to a fine\, familiar sipping experience adjacent to any high end whiskey or brandy. \n  \nRum Et Al: \n  \nI’m Robyn Smith and I’m a chemical engineer\, educator\, and distiller. My journey in the distilled spirits industry began in 2018 as the research chemist for lost spirits distillery making rum\, whiskey\, and brandy. My role there wasn’t just confined to the chemical analysis in the lab I built; I also got hands on experience working in production. I entered the spirits industry as a bourbon fan\, but quickly fell in love with rum (literally during my interview with lost spirits). \n  \nFast forward to 2024\, I partnered with Aaron Rokjer at Dead of Night Dstillery and launched rum et al! All of the rums I make are crafted entirely at the distillery in Los Angeles\, California. This collaboration allows me the freedom to operate as experimental distiller. I’m so excited to dive into those nuances and share this exploration with you. \n  \nFood will be provided by Adam and other members\, so if you’d like to participate in making something tropical\, please email Adam@scothclub.com (or txt or call) and let me know ASAP and we can use club funds to help fund some great eats to pair with the great rum!

SUMMARY:Scotch with the Jack Smith
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Due to illness\, the venue has been changed to Goodfellas. \n“Hostess Extraordinaire: Phyllis Smith” Here’s an opportunity to enjoy our fine Scotch whisky lineup in the lovely home of our event hostess\, Phyllis Smith. Even more\, her food selections are always a delight. On the whisky end\, let’s begin with The Deveron 12 from the Macduff Distillery. It’s a tasting apéritif style single malt at an approachable 40% ABV. The fine Dalwhinnie Winter’s Gold is our second dram. It is distilled only during the winter when Dalwhinnie is the coldest distillery in Scotland. Glenfarclas is the winner when the question is what is the best 12-year-old sherried single malt. Come and see. Speaking of sherried whiskies\, none is more sherried than Tamdhu Cask Strength at 58.8% ABV. Literally\, it is the sherry bomb. My favorite Kilchoman is Machir Bay which comes in at 46% ABV and 50-ppm. I finally located the Lagavulin 12-year Special Release for 2024. It is a cask strength expression at 57.4% ABV and 34-38 ppm. This edition has more 1st fill than refill bourbon casks and will require your attention in a delicious manner. \nSo\, do join us and bring a friend\, because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” Join our family… \nWHISKY MENU \n1. We’ll be visiting a huge 12 bottle lineup of whisky that is going to look basic (10 year\, 12 year)\, but this isn’t the scotch you buy down at the Try N’ Save in the year 2025. These are the whiskies on the shelves in the ’70s\, ’80s\, and ’90s. These are hard to find unless you know a guy\, and you know a guy. Yes\, there will likely be a lot of rotten corks to deal with\, so be patient\, you’ll be poured. \nAs an added bonus (or the opposite\, you decide)\, Andy Smith\, the pickled poobah hisself will be in person to present the scotch with minimal energy due to Peatin’ Meetin’ recovery. \nWe’ll be in CORONADO at the home of Bill Rogers who will be cooking smoked tri-tip\, beans\, and garlic toast.  Dinner included in the price. \nThe OLD bottlings\nBenriach 10yr\nBruichladdich 10yr\nDalmore 12yr\nGlen Garioch 10yr\nGlen Ord 12yr\nGlendronach 15yr\nGlenfarclas 105\nGlenfarclas 12yr\nGlenfiddich 12yr\nOld Fettercairn 10yr\nRoyal Lochnagar 12yr\nTalisker 10yr \nIt’s a LOT of scotch at a great price.

DESCRIPTION:Join Scotch Club\, Mr. Peabody\, and Sherman\, on a trip to the way-back machine where we visit whisky from decades ago and compare them side by side with their modern counterparts. Scotch Club has been hoarding these old gems for years and it’s time to dust them off and pop the cork (carefully.) \nWe’ll compare each whisky will its counterpart side by side and pour them blind\, to judge whether the malt has gotten better… or worse. \nThe 80s and 90s                                   The Current Releases \nTalisker 10yr                                                   Talisker 10yr\nDalmore 12yr                                                  Dalmore 12yr\nBruichladdich 10yr                                           Bruichladdich 10yr\nGlenfarclas 12yr                                             Glenfarclas 12yr\nGlenfiddich 12yr                                             Glenfiddich 12yr \nSnacks included.

SUMMARY:American Single Malt Whiskey
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in over 52 years the U.S. Government has added a new type of whiskey to its regulations: American Single Malt Whiskey. On December 18th\, 2024\, the TTB officially added the new Standard of Identity with an effective date of January 19th\, 2025 that clearly defines the category and protects its producers and their products. The new definition stipulates that American Single Malt adhere to the following production standards: \n1. Made from 100% malted barley.\n2. Distilled entirely at one distillery.\n3. Mashed\, distilled\, and matured in the United States of America.\n4. Matured in oak casks of a capacity not exceeding 700 liters.\n5. Distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% Alcohol by Volume)\n6. Bottled at 80 (U.S.) proof or more. (40% Alcohol by Volume) \nFinally\, the U.S. has recognized that American Single Malt Whiskey is unique and deserves to be defined and protected as other American whiskey categories are. Most importantly\, this new definition ensures that consumers worldwide can have every confidence that what they think is in a bottle of American Single Malt Whiskey actually is. \nJoin us June 22nd as we taste 6 American Single Malt Whiskies: \nCedar Ridge The QuintEssential (Swisher\, IA)\nWestland Distillery 7 Year Old Single Cask No. 4857 Muscat Cask (Seattle\, WA)\nVirginia Distillery Co. SUMMARY:The Armchair Tour of Scotland
DESCRIPTION:“An Armchair Tour of Scotland” Our tasting features 3 new releases to our market. Tamnavulin (Whyte & Mackay) is the first up. Its Double Cask begins life in bourbon barrels and is finished in sherry casks. As we seldom see an Auchroisk bottling in our market\, let’s opt for its 10-Year\, a rare 43% ABV dram from Battlehill. Now hear this: Glenglassaugh 12-Year is da bomb! This one exceeded my expectations\, and I bet that it will also pleasantly surprise you\, too. Isle of Arran 14-Year was discontinued in 2019 (rather shocking as it was its best-selling bottling!). The discontinuation occurred alongside the introduction of the distillery’s new core range and the renaming of the distillery to Lochranza (no one calls it Lochranza\, so if you refer to it\, go with the Isle of Arran Distillery version). \nBruichladdich Islay Barley 2014 Edition features barley grown on 8 farms on Islay. Unlike the 2013 Edition which used the Bere (aka Viking) barley variety\, our edition was made from Concerto and Propino barley grown on Islay. Yes\, the last one will demand your attention: Caol Ila 2008 Vintage 8-Year at cask strength 59.5% ABV and peated at 34-38 ppm. It is a Signatory bottling of a single cask selected by Binny’s of Chicago. \nSo\, do join us and bring a friend\, because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”  Join our dram family… \nWHISKY MENU \n1. SUMMARY:Cyber Split #2 - SPECial
DESCRIPTION:—NOT AN EVENT—\nNote\, for logistical reasons\, we reduced the bottles to 12. Pours will either be larger or a partial refund will be returned. That decision is pending. \nCyber Split #2 \nSpec’s Wine and Spirits has been releasing single casks for a long time. The problem is (unless you live in Texas) is that Texas is a no-ship state\, so the other 49 states\, and that’s most of us\, can’t really get these without a Texas friend to help out.  As it so happens\, one of our KANSAS CITY SCOTCH CLUB members is taking trips to Dallas (ahhhh\, what we do for love) and can bring these gems back to Scotch Headquarters via four-tire transport. Well\, let it never be said that Scotch Club won’t abuse true love in the name of true love of a good dram. So… we’re getting some Spec’s Exclusives\, 15 of them\, and we’re going to split them\, ship them\, and dram the bejezeezus outta them.  Are you in? \nAs we can only purchase whisky we have sold\, only the first 15 are guaranteed. For every 15 sales we get\, we will buy another bottle for splitting. In order to keep the tastings more personal\, we’ll split into smaller groups so that everyone can feel a part of the tasting. \nWe estimate these will get to you in early June. \nPLEASE NOTE THE EVENT DATE IS A PLACEHOLDER ONLY.  ONLINE TASTINGS WILL BE SCHEDULED TO FIT YOUR SCHEDULES. \nAuchroisk Signatory Vintage 1996 26yr Bourbon Hogshead 48.9%\nMiltonduff Signatory Vintage 2009 12yr Bourbon Barrel 56.4%\nPulteney Signatory Vintage 2008 12yr Bourbon Barrel / Sherry Finish 55.7%\nArchives 00543 Edrington Blend 2001 19yr Sherry Butt 45.9%\nGlenrothes A.D.
