SUMMARY:Cigars\, Bourbon\, and Rye
DESCRIPTION:It’s still (column-sometimes-pot) Whiskey Season:  By popular demand\, ours is a Bourbon-Rye whiskey gala. \nMichter’s US-1 is a much sought after truly ‘small batch’ (23 or fewer barrels) Bourbon at a reasonable price. \nWillett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon is the top-selling-label produced by Willett. \nOld Bardstown is a sourced-Bourbon bottled by Willett Distillery. Rumor has it as having been made by Heaven Hill during those days past in which Willett wasn’t distilling. Who cares? It’s a delicious 101-proofer at only $40 a bottle! \nFour Roses Single Barrel Bourbon; thank you Sean Daily @ Rootstock. \nLeopold Brothers Maryland Rye is one of the two late 18th century rye styles. It features ‘malted barley grain’ rather than the ‘malted rye grain’ used in Monongahela aka Pennsylvania Rye. Thus\, MD rye is sweeter and more\ approachable. (Leopold Bros. made a large batch of PA rye in 2017 and will release in or about 2025.) \nHigh West A Midwinter Night’s Dram is a genuine super star! It’s a limited release of High West ‘Rendezvous Rye’ that adds a finishing in port barrique (250-300L) or port drums (600-650L) made of toasted Limousin or Tronçais French oak. \nWe hope you can join us and do bring a friend because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”

SUMMARY:Synergy of Malt
DESCRIPTION:Let’s Do This! \nWe’re excited about our flight of 6 single malt whiskies. They fit together quite nicely to the point of creating synergies… the whole is greater than the sum of its component parts. We’ve based our flight on 3 pairings: Tullibardine (light aperitif whisky and Tomatin (a sherry-finished ‘Tweener’ dram)\, Bladnoch (a bold all-rounder) and GlenDronach 15 (an elegant sherry bomb)\, and Amrut Spectrum (a rich digestif) and Caol Ila (a cask-strength but balanced peated digestif). If you’re not a peated whisky lover\, this is the tasting for you (there’s only one peated dram). I hope that you can join us and do bring a friend as ‘good whisky is made great when shared among friends.’ \nWHISKY MENU: Yes\, this is the time to use that hall pass \n1. SUMMARY:Loch Lomond and Glen Scotia - Core Range
DESCRIPTION:Scotch Club will be back on Zoom this month with a friend known to some of the older clubs but new to us\, Forbes McMullen. Forbes will guide the club through a tasting of two distilleries\, Loch Lomond and Glen Scotia. Glen Scotia has been in the single malt world for a while now\, but Loch Lomond used to be rarely released on its own. That’s changed now\, and Loch Lomond is now the official whisky of the British Open. \nJoin us on Zoom at 1:30 pm PACIFIC with samples of THIRTEEN expressions of Glen Scotia and Loch Lomond. \n$40 – Purchase here\n

SUMMARY:End of Tariffs - Rare Scotch Tasting
DESCRIPTION:SOLD OUT\nA SECOND EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED WITH A 2ND DATE.  YOU MAY ATTEND EITHER.  FOR NEW PURCHASERS\, A DIFFERENT BERRY’S NORTH BRITISH (1996) WILL BE TASTED.\nZOOM – FIVE 1oz. samples\nThe tariffs are over! As if a year of COVID wasn’t bad enough\, we’ve had to avoid many of our favorite suppliers overseas because of the 25% tariff they were required to add. Well\, that’s over and Scotch Club has gone shopping for some of the great whiskies that we’ve been missing since the 2019 tariffs. This is a high-end tasting and will be limited to as few as 22 people as we are bottling these as ONE OUNCE samples. \nScotch Club has always been about finding great/new scotches and sharing them with great new/old friends.  In a way\, the last year visiting the core of many of our favorite ranges has been good to get many of the newer scotchers up to speed.  This event is more in line with our classic meetings… rare and unusual (hopefully delicious) scotch to share with rare and unusual friends.  I wish we could do this live\, but now we can dram cross-continent. \nHere is what we are going to try.  Why?  Because we can.  Slainte! \n  \nLongmorn 1973 42yr Gordon & Macphail \nHow often do you get to try a 42 year old single malt? And it’s a Longmorn at that. \nFettercairn 1997 23yr Signatory Cask Strength \nFettercairn is one of those under-the-radar distilleries that is often fantastic. Signatory Cask Strength\, one of our favorite brands\, has bottled this one and they never let us down. \nAllt-a-Bhainne 1997 23yr Watt Whisky \nAllt-a-Bhainne is a distillery only the most serious of us have ever heard of. This rare distillery has surfaced in our club events over the years\, but we’ve never tried of this independent bottler. \nNorth British 18yr Berry Brothers & Rudd \nA rare 18yr old grain whisky from North British Distillery \nArdmore 1988 31yr Old & Rare \nArdmore is one of those rare non-Islay peated whiskies. This 31 year old scotch will be visiting us thanks to elite independent bottler\, Hunter Laing Old and Rare. \n

SUMMARY:Kilchoman with Joshua Hatton
DESCRIPTION:Kilchoman exploded onto the whisky scene less than a decade ago and they’ve been making fantastic whisky. Don’t expect all-out peat monsters the likes of Laphroaig and Ardbeg.  Kilchoman peat is more subtle and the distillery selects only the best casks. This is a complex treat for true enthusiasts. \nJoshua Hatton\, Keeper of the Quaich\, co-founder of Single Cask Nation\, and whisky expert for Impex will be leading the club through this tasting. \nThe Kilchomans \nKilchoman Machir Bay is using (90%) ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks Married with (10%) Ex Oloroso Sherry Cask. This is done at 46%ABV nonchill filtered no artificial color or filtering. \nKilchoman Collaborative Vatting Machir Bay using (95%) Ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks Married with (5%) Ex Oloroso Casks bottled at 46%ABV nonchill Filtered no artificial color or filtered. The expression permits the consumer to evaluate how the difference in percentage of barreling results in a different taste profile showing how this whisky reacts with different combination of aging. \nKilchoman 100% Islay uses Barley grown on the Distillery property\, malted on property\, Distilled on property\,  Aged on property and in the end bottled on property resulting in the only 100% on property single malt Scotch whisky from Grain to bottle. This whisky is produced at 50%ABV nonchill Filtered no artificial color or filtering. \nKilchoman Sanaig is kind of the opposite of Kilchoman Machir Bay by using (70%) EX Oloroso Sherry casks being married with (30%) Ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks again showing how important wood treatment is to the end result whisky. This expression is bottled at 46% ABV nonchill Filtered no artificial color or filtering. \nKilchoman Small Batch #3 is a marriage of (47%) Ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks with (3%) Ex Oloroso Sherry casks with (50%) Ex Ruby Port Casks all married together to produce a never to be repeated collectors item specifically due to availability of ex Ruby Red Port Matured Kilchoman available. Mr Wills allowed this beauty to be created once but due to availability of Ruby Red Matured Port casks available the 50 % shall not be repeated. This bottling is at 48.9% ABV nonchill Filtered no artificial color or filtering. \nKilchoman Single Cask 256/2011 – ImpEx Cask Evolution 03/2016: PX Finish:  As the 3rd edition of its Cask Evolution series\, the US importer ImpEx released this single cask in summer 2016. The whisky was matured at first for over 4 years in a bourbon barrel before being finished in a fresh Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask for 6 months. \n

SUMMARY:April Celebration
DESCRIPTION:April Celebration: \nOur tasting includes 3 fine cask strength single malts\, 1 single grain\, 2 single malts at 46%; all are non-chillfiltered. Loch Lomond is our single grain entry. It’s 100% malted barley\, but distilled on a twin column still (thus disqualifying it from being a single malt). Such whisky is called a ‘silent malt’. Until it was discontinued a couple of years ago\, its best-seller was Arran 14-Year. \nGlenDronach Port Wood 10-year is a tasty new core expression. From the Scotch Malt Whisky Society\, we will taste 2 cask strength whiskies: Blair Athol (59.1% ABV) and Teaninich 55.1% ABV. Our final whisky is one we have unsuccessfully searched for since September 2019: Lagavulin’s 2019 Special Release @ 56.5% ABV.  My thanks to Raj who hunted in down. \nWe hope that you can join us and do bring a friend as ‘good whisky is made great when shared among friends.’ \nWHISKY MENU: \n1. SUMMARY:Loch Lomond and Glen Scotia
DESCRIPTION:Denver Scotch Club will be back on Zoom this month with a friend known to some of the older clubs but new to us\, Forbes McMullen. We’ll explore the core (US) range of both distilleries. \nJoin us on Zoom at 7:30pm MOUNTAIN with samples of EIGHT expressions of Glen Scotia and Loch Lomond.

SUMMARY:Cigars and Scotch at Maxwell's
DESCRIPTION:Proprietor Harvey Burkin and Manager Bryan Baxter are opening the doors for an evening of good spirits and tasty cigar pairings. May I suggest that you grab a friend(s) and head over to Maxwell’s Cigar Bar? It’s conveniently located on Towne Lake Pkwy\, just ¼ mile north of Main St. Woodstock. \nThis will be good fun! Our whisky is breaking out of the lock down\, so let’s help it escape. The Glenlivet’s 12-year-old is a delightful aperitif-style dram. Ainsley Brae is actually Royal Brackla 12-year\, a fine rich dram from Total Wine. Hailing from western Speyside\, Benromach wood finish is an 8-year beauty finished for 28- months in Sassicaia cask. Billy Walker’s GlenAllachie distillery has been winning most of the major awards the past 2 years… you will discover the reason when you taste his 12-year single malt. Ardbeg Drum is a 52% ABV bourbon cask matured and rum cask finished special release by The Ardbeg Committee whereas our final dram is the famed Smokehead High Voltage 58% ABV which is from a non-disclosed Islay distillery. \nWe hope to see you at Maxwell’s Cigar Bar in Woodstock… and do bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” Sláinte! \nWHISKY MENU: \n1. DESCRIPTION:Scotch Club will be visiting Loch Lomond alone during this special deep dive into a distillery that isn’t new\, but is new as a single malt to many. SUMMARY:2021 High-End Single Malt Tasting
DESCRIPTION:“This is real… Not An April Fool’s Joke”: The best remedy for any lingering Covid-Shut-In-Blues is high-end single malt.  We’re quite sure that you’ll find our cure most enjoyable. Glenlivet 1991 Nadurra (18-yo) is made from the long-gone Triumph 2-row spring barley. Littlemill (closed in 1992) is a personal favorite. \nLet’s taste the 1988 (25-yo) aged in a sherry cask and bottled at 54.9% ABV. Jura (Triple Sherry Finish) is the 2016 Islay Festival annual release at 51% ABV. Next is Inchgower\, 1997 vintage (20-yo) at 61.5% ABV. Highland Park Ice Edition is a 2016 vintage (17-yo) limited release at 53.9% ABV. Ledaig is a moderately-peated 18-yo sherry cask beauty bottled at 46.3% ABV. \nBONUS: If we have 25 participants\, Dr. Lobonc will offer a 7th High-End single malt. In that event\, the participants will get to vote as to their choice from a selection of several bottles. I hope that you can join our tasting and do bring a friend because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” \nWHISKY MENU: \n1. Hailing from western Speyside\, Benromach wood finish is an 8-year beauty finished for 28-months in Sassicaia cask. Ainsley Brae is actually Royal Brackla 12-year\, a fine rich dram from Total Wine. We hope to see you at Maxwell’s Cigar Bar in Woodstock… and do bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” Sláinte! \nWHISKY MENU:\n1. SUMMARY:Day Drinking with Ollie: The Single Malts of Scotland
DESCRIPTION:2pm PACIFIC – Zoom \nOver the past few years\, independent bottler “The Single Malts of Scotland” has established a solid reputation in Europe for the quality of it’s cask  selections. Earlier this year they began bringing their whiskies directly to the U.S. And now\, thanks to our friends at JVS Imports\, the Orange County Scotch Club will be among the first to taste the whiskies of their second U.S. Release. \nEven better\, we’ll have Oliver Chilton\, Head Blender for SMoS parent company Elixir Distillers\, live from London to guide us thru their five newest offerings.\nBut wait\, there’s more! As a bonus sixth selection we’ll also be tasting Elixir Distiller’s Black Tot Rum. This fine blended Caribbean rum was created to commemorate Black Tot Day\, that dark day in 1970 when sailors in the Royal Navy were issued their final daily ration of rum. \nEach participant will receive a set of six numbered one ounce samples. Their identities will be revealed at the Zoom meeting (and only at the meeting). Attendees will also receive a discount code for 10% off purchase of any of these bottles at The Mixing Glass in Costa Mesa. \nThe Single Malts of Scotland: \nArdbeg 19yr. 2001\nImperial 23yr. 1997\nOrkney (Highland Park) 14yr. 2006\nClynelish 10yr. 2010\nAird Mhor 10yr. 2009\nBlack Tot Finest Caribbean Rum

SUMMARY:Scotch and Chocolate
DESCRIPTION:7pm EASTERN \nYOU ARE INVITED to join for a virtual GlenDronach tasting featuring 3 top-shelf single malts with gourmet chocolate pairings. This MASC event will be led by Amber Aristy\, Brown-Forman/Atlanta. Please purchase your tickets ASAP as we only have room for 24 participants. No worries… there will be events for BenRiach\, Glenglassaugh and\, again\, GlenDronach in October\, November and December. If we have a strong demand\, perhaps we will be able to handle more participants in the future events. See you on Zoom! \nThe GlenDronach 12 paired with Gourmet Chocolate\nSweet\, round and creamy; Oranges\, plums\, walnuts\, chocolate\, sherry\, and soft spice oak. Swiss chocolate is chocolate produced in Switzerland. While cacao beans and other ingredients such as sugar can originate from outside Switzerland\, the actual production of the chocolate must take place in Switzerland. Switzerland’s chocolates have earned an international reputation for high quality with many famous international chocolate brands. Switzerland is particularly renowned for its milk chocolate. In 1875\, a Swiss confectioner\, Daniel Peter\, developed the first solid milk chocolate using condensed milk\, which had been invented by Henri Nestlé\, who was Peter’s neighbor in Vevey. The chocolate will well complement the sweet influence of PX and Oloroso maturation\, and floral flavors of GlenDronach 12. \nGlenDronach Portwood paired with Gourmet Chocolate\nSweet\, round and creamy; Oranges\, plums\, walnuts\, chocolate\, sherry\, and soft spice oak. The 17th century saw the start of chocolate processed in Switzerland. In the 18th century chocolate was only produced in a few areas\, such as the Ticino. In the 19th and early-20th centuries\, the following chocolate factories were founded: Cailler (1819)\, Favarger & Suchard (1826)\, Kohler (1830)\, Sprüngli (1836)\, Maestrani (1836)\, Klaus (1862)\, Peter/Nestlé (1867)\, Lindt (1879)\, Frey (1887)\, Tobler/Kraft Foods (1899)\, Chocolat de Villars (1901)\, Felchlin (1908)\, Stella (1928)\, Camille Bloch (1929)\, Teuscher & Bernrain (1932)\, Chocolats Halba/Coop (1933)\, and Kägi Söhne (1934). In the second half of the 19th century\, Swiss chocolate started to spread abroad. Closely linked to this was the invention of milk chocolate by Daniel Peter in Vevey and conching by Rodolphe Lindt. The sweetness/tartiness of the chocolate is the perfect accompaniment to bring out the sweet and nuttiness of the Portwood. \nThe GlenDronach 18 Allardice paired with Gourmet Chocolate\nRichly sherried malt is truly unforgettable with sweet aromatics of fudge and muscovado sugar and a taste of rich\, dark and seductive flavors of sweet fruits and allspice. In 2004\, 148\,270 tons of chocolate were produced in Switzerland. 53% of this was exported (North America 13%). The gross income of the Swiss chocolate industry in 2004 was $1.5 billion ($900m local market; $600m exports). In 1901\, Swiss chocolate producers created the Union libre des fabricants suisses de chocolat . In 1916\, this was divided into the Chambre Syndicale des Fabricants Suisses de Chocolat and the Convention Chocolatière Suisse. The former “Chambre syndicale” (today\, Chocosuisse) protects the interests of Swiss chocolate producers. The “Convention Chocolatière” focused on the quality of the chocolate and sought a uniform price strategy. The rich chocolate flavors really draw out the all spice\, sweet fruits and chocolate that the 18 years of aging in Oloroso casks brings to the whisky. \nWHISKY MENU: \nGLENDRONACH Single Malt / ‘The Original’ / 12-Year / 43% ABV / OB / Dist Owner: BenRiach Dist Co. SUMMARY:Black Friday Bundle
DESCRIPTION:The best remedy for any lingering ‘turkey overdose’ and ‘over-shopping’ evils is Scotch whisky and I’m quite sure that you’ll find my Rx most enjoyable. This Glencadam is da bomb! I just love this style of whisky\, because it for its unique taste and interesting complexity. Glenlivet Triple Cask Matured is the half-step in strength that sought in a #2 slot whisky. Here’s a lovely dram that is currently missing from Arran’s core line-up: Arran 14-Year. But there’s no need for us to bemoan its absence: I have a bottle. Glengoyne is a mellow highlander at its 43-46% ABV typical strength. But it’s a bit of a beast at cask strength. \nThere are many fine cask strength ranges available from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society\, Signatory\, Gordon & MacPhail and\, most recently\, Battlehill. Unlike the other independent bottlers\, Battlehill costs $50 a bottle. While they’re young CS whiskies\, only fully-matured casks are selected. Let’s try BH’s Royal Brackla\, an awesome 5-year-old offering at 58% ABV. Let’s top it off with a lovely dram of Port Charlotte Scottish Barley. \nWe hope that you can join our Black Friday tasting and do bring a friend because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.” \nWHISKY MENU: \n1. SUMMARY:Whiskey Season Celebration
DESCRIPTION:It’s a Whiskey Season Celebration. \nBy popular demand\, it’s a Bourbon center gala. W.L. Weller is a must sought after wheated Bourbon as its Mashbill substitutes wheat instead of the standard rye grain component. Boone County 1833 is a fine 10-year Bourbon bottled at almost 91-proof. In Chattanooga\, we discovered its top-selling J.W. Kelly Melrose Rye. Our bottle was finished in a former Amarone red wine cask of Spanish red oak. Old Bardstown is a sourced-Bourbon bottled by Willett Distillery. Rumor has it as having been made by Heaven Hill. Who cares? It’s a delicious 101-proofer at only $40 a bottle! Our Knob Creek is a single barrel\, barrel proof Bourbon selected/bottled for Vintage Bottle Shop in Acworth. Now the big find: Stagg Junior which is among the harder to find Buffalo Trace Bourbons. \nMy thanks to Harry at The Juice Box\, Northside Drive\, Sandy Springs.
