DESCRIPTION:Something Old\, Something New: First up: Glenlivet 12 a grand dram of the aperitif style and one that should be re-visited. Iwai Tradition is a blended Japanese whisky from Mars Shinshu distillery\, situated up in the Japanese Alps.  We’ve been following Hautes Glaces since Rémy bought the distillery in 2017. Les Moissons is an organic single malt which was made\, interestingly\, up in the French Alps. I’ll bet that you haven’t had a Mannochmore recently. Other than the only available at the distillery offering\, I’ve never seen an official bottling of Mannochmore. Thanks to the good folks at G&M\, we can try a 16-\nyear-old independent bottling. Corryvreckan and Uigeadail… Uigeadail and Corryvreckan: The bench-marks of the Ardbeg range. As the laddies and lasses at our 6/24/21 tasting rather enjoyed Fettercairn 24 and Laphroaig Cairdeas 2018 Edition drams\, let’s try Fettercairn 20-year and Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014 Edition. \nWe will begin with Glen Grant’s lovely The Major’s Reserve and Tamdhu 10yr\, a sherried-single malt.  Following the aforementioned Fettercairn 20\, let’s taste a cask strength Balmenach 10 from a single-cask selected by Scotch Malt Whisky Society. As the distillery doesn’t bottle any single malt (it’s all used for blending)\, let’s thank the folks at SMWS for bottling this terrific whisky! Next up is the tasty Caol Ila Moch! This is a whisky that requires the staff to select only those casks that have subtle and well-balanced barley grain and light charred cask wood aromas. Caol Ila\, for my money\, is the most complex\, delicious and interesting Islay dram. You can’t go wrong with CI 12\, 18 and Moch. Want to contemplate life or the theory of relativity? This brought up the question: who is Watt Whisky? Here’s what Kate and Mark Watt have to say on their website: \nMark and I have over 40 years experience in the Scotch Whisky industry between us and\, after many years of working for other people\, we decided that now was the time to strike out on our own. We established Campbeltown Whisky Company Ltd. in January this year and\, thanks to an incredibly successful Crowdfunder campaign\, will be bottling our first cask (for Crowdfunders only) under our own independent bottling brand\, Watt Whisky\, in August of this year. This will be followed by our first general release later in the year. \nCampbeltown\, as many whisky fans will know\, has a rich distilling heritage. Once home to over 35 distilleries\, there are now 3 continuing this great tradition. Despite the vast numbers of distilleries that have been established here over the years\, to our knowledge there has never been an independent bottler established in the town (Cadenhead’s moved here in 1972 from Aberdeen)\, until now anyway. \nWe’ve chosen Campbeltown as a base\, not just because of its great whisky heritage but also because it is our home! By setting up our business here\, we hope to add to the already impressive whisky offering for visitors and to contribute to the local community and economy.

You tasted a young Kininvie in Monkey Shoulder\, but let’s try this 17-year-old dram. We’ll follow on with a 24-year-old Fettercairn distilled in 1993 and bottled at cask strength 51.5%: yum! This latest expression represents the possibilities to be explored in single malt and captures the essence of our house style in one flagship bottle \nGarryana Edition 5 – This latest edition of Westland’s most anticipated limited release of the year recently took home the prize for American Single Malt of the Year at Whisky Magazine’s World Whiskies Awards. In this bottling\, the decadence of Garry Oak conspires with the smokiness of peat to create a spicy and savory union. \nOld Line\nOld Line American Single Malt Whiskey – Cask Strength (~122 proof) \nOld Line American Single Malt Whiskey is a definitively American style whiskey. Produced with 100% malted barley and aged in virgin\, charred American oak casks it marries the best of old world distillation and new world aging techniques. The 100% malted barley mash bill gives this whiskey a wonderfully rich base with flavors of toffee and a hint of dark chocolate. Bottled at cask strength\, the cask strength is more complex and intense than the 86 proof expression. \nOld Line American Single Malt Whiskey – Caribbean Rum Finish (100 proof) \nOld Line American Single Malt Whiskey is a definitively American style whiskey. Produced with 100% malted barley and aged in virgin\, charred American oak casks it marries the best of old world distillation and new world aging techniques. The 100% malted barley mash bill gives this whiskey a wonderfully rich base with flavors of toffee and a hint of dark chocolate. The virgin oak aging imparts notes of vanilla\, caramel and baking spices. This expression of our American Single Malt is finished in casks that previously Old Line’s own blend of Caribbean rum\, lending rich tropical notes and a touch of sweetness to the spirits. \nSanta Fe Spirits\nColkegan – mesquite Smoked American Single Malt – 92 proof (46% ABV) Selling at around $55 in CO \nThis is a lightly smoked Single Malt. We take 1/3 of the grain and have it smoked at the malting house. It also has 1/3 of the aging done in New American Oak (medchar). These 2 factors help keep a good balance of smoke and oak. We blend 15 casks into each batch about 3 times a year\, and we only use whiskey that is a minimum of 3 years old . \nColkegan – Cask Strength (Single Cask release) Mesquite Smoked American Single Malt 118 proof (59% ABV) and selling around $75 in CO \nThis whiskey is as above for how we make it. However in the blending we are tasting each cask for how it will help the final whiskey. Signatory Cask Strength\, one of our favorite brands\, has bottled this one and they never let us down. \nAllt-a-Bhainne 1997 23yr Watt Whisky \nAllt-a-Bhainne is a distillery only the most serious of us have ever heard of. This rare distillery has surfaced in our club events over the years\, but we’ve never tried of this independent bottler. \nNorth British 18yr Berry Brothers & Rudd \nA rare 18yr old grain whisky from North British Distillery \nArdmore 1988 31yr Old & Rare \nArdmore is one of those rare non-Islay peated whiskies. This 31 year old scotch will be visiting us thanks to elite independent bottler\, Hunter Laing Old and Rare. \n

DESCRIPTION:Kilchoman exploded onto the whisky scene less than a decade ago and they’ve been making fantastic whisky. Don’t expect all-out peat monsters the likes of Laphroaig and Ardbeg.  Kilchoman peat is more subtle and the distillery selects only the best casks. This is a complex treat for true enthusiasts. \nJoshua Hatton\, Keeper of the Quaich\, co-founder of Single Cask Nation\, and whisky expert for Impex will be leading the club through this tasting. \nThe Kilchomans \nKilchoman Machir Bay is using (90%) ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks Married with (10%) Ex Oloroso Sherry Cask. This is done at 46%ABV nonchill filtered no artificial color or filtering. \nKilchoman Collaborative Vatting Machir Bay using (95%) Ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks Married with (5%) Ex Oloroso Casks bottled at 46%ABV nonchill Filtered no artificial color or filtered. The expression permits the consumer to evaluate how the difference in percentage of barreling results in a different taste profile showing how this whisky reacts with different combination of aging. \nKilchoman 100% Islay uses Barley grown on the Distillery property\, malted on property\, Distilled on property\,  Aged on property and in the end bottled on property resulting in the only 100% on property single malt Scotch whisky from Grain to bottle. This whisky is produced at 50%ABV nonchill Filtered no artificial color or filtering. \nKilchoman Sanaig is kind of the opposite of Kilchoman Machir Bay by using (70%) EX Oloroso Sherry casks being married with (30%) Ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks again showing how important wood treatment is to the end result whisky. This expression is bottled at 46% ABV nonchill Filtered no artificial color or filtering. \nKilchoman Small Batch #3 is a marriage of (47%) Ex Buffalo Trace Bourbon Casks with (3%) Ex Oloroso Sherry casks with (50%) Ex Ruby Port Casks all married together to produce a never to be repeated collectors item specifically due to availability of ex Ruby Red Port Matured Kilchoman available. Mr Wills allowed this beauty to be created once but due to availability of Ruby Red Matured Port casks available the 50 % shall not be repeated. This bottling is at 48.9% ABV nonchill Filtered no artificial color or filtering. \nKilchoman Single Cask 256/2011 – ImpEx Cask Evolution 03/2016: PX Finish:  As the 3rd edition of its Cask Evolution series\, the US importer ImpEx released this single cask in summer 2016. The whisky was matured at first for over 4 years in a bourbon barrel before being finished in a fresh Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask for 6 months. \n

It’s 100% malted barley\, but distilled on a twin column still (thus disqualifying it from being a single malt). Such whisky is called a ‘silent malt’. Until it was discontinued a couple of years ago\, its best-seller was Arran 14-Year. \nGlenDronach Port Wood 10-year is a tasty new core expression. From the Scotch Malt Whisky Society\, we will taste 2 cask strength whiskies: Blair Athol (59.1% ABV) and Teaninich 55.1% ABV. DESCRIPTION:“This is real… Not An April Fool’s Joke”: The best remedy for any lingering Covid-Shut-In-Blues is high-end single malt.  We’re quite sure that you’ll find our cure most enjoyable. Glenlivet 1991 Nadurra (18-yo) is made from the long-gone Triumph 2-row spring barley. Littlemill (closed in 1992) is a personal favorite. \nLet’s taste the 1988 (25-yo) aged in a sherry cask and bottled at 54.9% ABV.
