SUMMARY:The Judgement of Westland - Seattle
DESCRIPTION:Seattle Scotch Club will be participating in The Judgement of Westland… and then some.  In addition to the blind tasting of 1oz each of an unknown Westland and three other single malts\, we will finish with more distillery pours. \nTHE PRICE TO JOIN IS $0.  WE JUST ASK FOR A NAME AND EMAIL FOR ALL ATTENDEES. \nWestland’s own Brian Mura will preside over the Judgment.  YOU will be the jury. \nFrom our friends at Westland Distillery (Seattle): \n“For centuries Scotland set the standards in single malt whiskey. But today there is a sea change underway. New voices have emerged to challenge the sanctity of tradition in single malt. At Westland we believe that the merits of a single malt should not be determined by where a distillery sits on a map\, but instead be judged by the integrity of its intention and the excellence of its execution. We believe that all fine single malts should be equally considered as valid points in the global conversation that defines them. \nSince 2010\, Westland has been the flag-bearer of America’s contribution to that conversation. Ten years in\, do we measure up? The pundits give us high marks\, but has Westland\, and America\, truly earned a seat at the table? It is not for us to claim; it is for you to decide. \nIt is time for the Judgement of Westland. \nOur goal is similar to that of The Judgement of Paris—a blind tasting hosted by British wine merchant Steven Spurrier in 1976 that American Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon against some of the most famed Bordeaux Chateaux—by demonstrating again that new world can indeed stand tall with old world. \nStarting October 1st\, Westland will be hosting a series of blind tastings across the globe featuring four single malts from four distinct regions. Single malt fans will be asked to score each (not rank) to see how different regions stack up. None other than Dave Broom and Dr. Sam Simmons have selected each whiskey and designed the scoring system.” \n

SUMMARY:Cigars and Scotch at Maxwell's III
DESCRIPTION:-6 Single Malts & Your Cigar Purchases- \nTO CELEBRATE THE FIRST DAY OF OFFICIAL WHISKY SEASON: \nLet’s get it started with Scapa Skiren\, a lovely dram from the Isle of Orkney in the North Sea. In 2012\, Whyte & Mackay replicated the blended malt that Sir Ernest Shackleton took on his 1909 trek to the South Pole. It was so popular that W&M introduced a Shackleton core of bottling in 2014. \nHailing from Wales\, Penderyn is an excellent single malt. We’ll try its best-seller Madeira cask finished.  A favorite dram among the 4 W&M distilleries is Fettercairn. Our expression is a 56% cask strength bottling by Battlehill. Bowmore Dark & Intense is an interesting Duty-Free exclusive bottling aged in a sherry-cask for 10- years. SUMMARY:Loch Lomond & Glen Scotia Georgia Launch
DESCRIPTION:Launch or Lunch?  Actually\, it’s the official Georgia launch event for the fine Loch Lomond and Glen Scotia single malt ranges. Mr Forbes McMullin\, Vice President of Loch Lomond Group and Brandon Cruz\, State Executive of Blue Ridge Spirits\, will lead our tasting. \nWe will taste 3 Loch Lomond expressions: Original\, 12-Year and the much hyped Royal Portrush from the Open Course range and three Glen Scotia expressions: Double Cask\, 15-Year and the mighty Victoriana. \nIf you are not familiar with Loch Lomond and/or Glen Scotia\, you are in for a very pleasant surprise! I’ve had the pleasure of touring Loch Lomond distillery twice and Glen Scotia nine times. Why? I love to discover and then enjoy the good things being brought forth by Michael Henry and Iain McAlister. \nPlease join us and do bring a friend as “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”

SUMMARY:The Judgement of Westland - San Diego
DESCRIPTION:From our friends at Westland Distillery (Seattle): \n“For centuries Scotland set the standards in single malt whiskey. Sam Simmons have selected each whiskey and designed the scoring system.” \nSan Diego Scotch Club will be participating in The Judgement of Westland… and then some.  In addition to the blind tasting of 1oz each of an unknown Westland and three other single malts\, we will finish with the flagship Westland and the coveted 2017 and 2021 Westland Garryanas.  That’s a lot of whisky!  Westland’s Marshall Altier will preside over the Judgment. \nIncluded with this tasting is dinner by Liberty Call’s Chef Miguel\, a skirt steak with chimichurri\, potatoes\, and flatbread.  Vegetarian upon request.  And all this for… $30. \n  \n

SUMMARY:An International Flight
DESCRIPTION:Something Old\, Something New: First up: Glenlivet 12 a grand dram of the aperitif style and one that should be re-visited. Iwai Tradition is a blended Japanese whisky from Mars Shinshu distillery\, situated up in the Japanese Alps.  We’ve been following Hautes Glaces since Rémy bought the distillery in 2017. Les Moissons is an organic single malt which was made\, interestingly\, up in the French Alps. I’ll bet that you haven’t had a Mannochmore recently. Other than the only available at the distillery offering\, I’ve never seen an official bottling of Mannochmore. Thanks to the good folks at G&M\, we can try a 16-\nyear-old independent bottling. Corryvreckan and Uigeadail… Uigeadail and Corryvreckan: The bench-marks of the Ardbeg range. SUMMARY:A Round Trip Flight
DESCRIPTION:A Round-Trip Flight: Round-trip? As the laddies and lasses at our 6/24/21 tasting rather enjoyed Fettercairn 24 and Laphroaig Cairdeas 2018 Edition drams\, let’s try Fettercairn 20-year and Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014 Edition. \nWe will begin with Glen Grant’s lovely The Major’s Reserve and Tamdhu 10yr\, a sherried-single malt.  Following the aforementioned Fettercairn 20\, let’s taste a cask strength Balmenach 10 from a single-cask selected by Scotch Malt Whisky Society. As the distillery doesn’t bottle any single malt (it’s all used for blending)\, let’s thank the folks at SMWS for bottling this terrific whisky! Next up is the tasty Caol Ila Moch! This is a whisky that requires the staff to select only those casks that have subtle and well-balanced barley grain and light charred cask wood aromas. Caol Ila\, for my money\, is the most complex\, delicious and interesting Islay dram. You can’t go wrong with CI 12\, 18 and Moch. Want to contemplate life or the theory of relativity? SUMMARY:What is Watt Whisky?
DESCRIPTION:ZOOM TASTING – 1PM PACIFIC\n$45 – 9 samples @ 1/2oz\n$85 – 9 samples @ 1oz \n-Featuring Kate and Mark Watt joining us from Campbeltown- \nAt Scotch Club’s recent tariff tasting\, a surprise favorite was the Allt-a-Bhainne 23yr from newcomer Watt Whisky. This brought up the question: who is Watt Whisky? Here’s what Kate and Mark Watt have to say on their website: \nMark and I have over 40 years experience in the Scotch Whisky industry between us and\, after many years of working for other people\, we decided that now was the time to strike out on our own. We established Campbeltown Whisky Company Ltd. in January this year and\, thanks to an incredibly successful Crowdfunder campaign\, will be bottling our first cask (for Crowdfunders only) under our own independent bottling brand\, Watt Whisky\, in August of this year. This will be followed by our first general release later in the year. \nCampbeltown\, as many whisky fans will know\, has a rich distilling heritage. Once home to over 35 distilleries\, there are now 3 continuing this great tradition. Despite the vast numbers of distilleries that have been established here over the years\, to our knowledge there has never been an independent bottler established in the town (Cadenhead’s moved here in 1972 from Aberdeen)\, until now anyway. \nWe’ve chosen Campbeltown as a base\, not just because of its great whisky heritage but also because it is our home! By setting up our business here\, we hope to add to the already impressive whisky offering for visitors and to contribute to the local community and economy.

SUMMARY:A Fun Flight
DESCRIPTION:A Fun Flight: Auchentoshan American Oak is a righteous dram! In it\, you will find your favorite (along with Three Wood) triple-distilled malt. You tasted a young Kininvie in Monkey Shoulder\, but let’s try this 17-year-old dram. We’ll follow on with a 24-year-old Fettercairn distilled in 1993 and bottled at cask strength 51.5%: yum! SUMMARY:American Single Malt (ASM) #1
DESCRIPTION:6pm PACIFIC\, 7PM MOUNTAIN EIGHT 1OZ MINIS \nDenver Scotch Club is a SCOTCH CLUB\, because we love the taste of Scottish style single malt whisky. However\, we do enjoy worldwide whiskies that emulate that style. While whisky in the US has been dominated by bourbon for centuries\, the new growth of craft distilleries has made for breaking the traditions. These new mavericks whisky try to make many things\, and some of that is single malt whisky in the Scottish style. We’re not going to just try one distillery and call it a day\, we are going to taste EIGHT SINGLE MALTS from FOUR distilleries and we’ll have representatives from each to talk to us. Here are our special guests: \nAustin Ponton\nWestland \nSanta Fe Spirits\nColin Kegan \nBalcones\nJared Himstedt \nOld Line\nMark McLaughlin \nWestland\nWestland American Single Malt Whiskey – The new Westland American Single Malt Whiskey is a culmination of over 10 years pioneering a new category of whiskey that has put America on the global single malt map. This latest expression represents the possibilities to be explored in single malt and captures the essence of our house style in one flagship bottle \nGarryana Edition 5 – This latest edition of Westland’s most anticipated limited release of the year recently took home the prize for American Single Malt of the Year at Whisky Magazine’s World Whiskies Awards. In this bottling\, the decadence of Garry Oak conspires with the smokiness of peat to create a spicy and savory union. \nOld Line\nOld Line American Single Malt Whiskey – Cask Strength (~122 proof) \nOld Line American Single Malt Whiskey is a definitively American style whiskey. Produced with 100% malted barley and aged in virgin\, charred American oak casks it marries the best of old world distillation and new world aging techniques. The 100% malted barley mash bill gives this whiskey a wonderfully rich base with flavors of toffee and a hint of dark chocolate. The virgin oak aging imparts notes of vanilla\, caramel and baking spices. Bottled at cask strength\, the cask strength is more complex and intense than the 86 proof expression. \nOld Line American Single Malt Whiskey – Caribbean Rum Finish (100 proof) \nOld Line American Single Malt Whiskey is a definitively American style whiskey. This expression of our American Single Malt is finished in casks that previously Old Line’s own blend of Caribbean rum\, lending rich tropical notes and a touch of sweetness to the spirits. \nSanta Fe Spirits\nColkegan – mesquite Smoked American Single Malt – 92 proof (46% ABV) Selling at around $55 in CO \nThis is a lightly smoked Single Malt. We take 1/3 of the grain and have it smoked at the malting house. It also has 1/3 of the aging done in New American Oak (medchar). These 2 factors help keep a good balance of smoke and oak. We blend 15 casks into each batch about 3 times a year\, and we only use whiskey that is a minimum of 3 years old . \nColkegan – Cask Strength (Single Cask release) Mesquite Smoked American Single Malt 118 proof (59% ABV) and selling around $75 in CO \nThis whiskey is as above for how we make it. However in the blending we are tasting each cask for how it will help the final whiskey. In our single cask releases this barrel has all the balance we are looking for by itself\, so we blend it directly. \nBalcones Distilling\nLineage: Lineage is a marrying of the traditional Scotch Single Malts that have long been an inspiration to us with innovative approaches to grain and maturation to celebrate Texas provenance. Made from both Scottish and Texas-grown barley and aged in both refill and new oak barrels\, Lineage celebrates both old and new traditions. \nTexas “1”: Made with traditional Scottish Golden Promise malted barley and highlighting virgin oak. A timeless style of malt whisky\, Balcones “1” Texas Single Malt breathes new life into centuries of distilling tradition with classic techniques and ingredients married with New World maturation.

SUMMARY:Cigars\, Bourbon\, and Rye
DESCRIPTION:It’s still (column-sometimes-pot) Whiskey Season:  By popular demand\, ours is a Bourbon-Rye whiskey gala. \nMichter’s US-1 is a much sought after truly ‘small batch’ (23 or fewer barrels) Bourbon at a reasonable price. \nWillett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon is the top-selling-label produced by Willett. \nOld Bardstown is a sourced-Bourbon bottled by Willett Distillery. Rumor has it as having been made by Heaven Hill during those days past in which Willett wasn’t distilling. Who cares? It’s a delicious 101-proofer at only $40 a bottle! \nFour Roses Single Barrel Bourbon; thank you Sean Daily @ Rootstock. \nLeopold Brothers Maryland Rye is one of the two late 18th century rye styles. It features ‘malted barley grain’ rather than the ‘malted rye grain’ used in Monongahela aka Pennsylvania Rye. Thus\, MD rye is sweeter and more\ approachable. (Leopold Bros. made a large batch of PA rye in 2017 and will release in or about 2025.) \nHigh West A Midwinter Night’s Dram is a genuine super star! It’s a limited release of High West ‘Rendezvous Rye’ that adds a finishing in port barrique (250-300L) or port drums (600-650L) made of toasted Limousin or Tronçais French oak. \nWe hope you can join us and do bring a friend because “good whisky is made great when shared among friends.”
